This first happened a few weeks ago, I was in Stourbridge but the Sat Nav put me in Bromsgrove (about 20 miles away)
This then righted itself.
Yesterday I went on a round trip to Kent and it showed that I was in The Wash!
I am now back in Stourbirdge and the SatNav map shows me in Cambridge.
Has anyone any ideas, would pulling the fuse out help?
Where's the fuse?
Cheers.

Re: SatNav is lost...
Not sure what year yours is but in the top right corner of you Nav screen should be an 'Earth' and it should have lots of little dots to represent GPS satellites on it. Are those dots and some green writing there? I think you get a green 'GPS' come up in that box once the lock is made. If not then either the GPS Receiver has lost the correct almanac, the Nav needs its OS updating/reloading or the unit has failed or the GPS Antenna is faulty.
I know mine went through a patch of not getting a GPS lock for a while and went off on its own miles from where it really was. The Dealer reloaded V32 of the OS and suggested leaving the car outside (engine running) with a clear view of the sky for a few minutes so that the car could update it's satellite almanac (stored in the GPS chip) that it uses to work out which satellites should be visible at that particular time. Having done as suggested it worked fine and never glitched again. I think a satellite had failed 'on orbit' and an updated almanac was needed - though why that didn't affect every user I'm unclear about.... ???
Fuses 7 & 41 spring to mind too. They're in the front above the glovebox. You can squeeze the catch to allow the stopper to come out of the lid so you can lower it further without having to remove the glovebox, and then undo a couple of catches to get at the fuseboard. I don't think the rear one is relevant, but have a look at the fuse cards to confirm.

Re: SatNav is lost...
This happened to me twice in Birmingham near the tunnels / A38M in recent weeks. It was a bit weird. On one occasion it carried on all the way down the M42 almost back home near the Ashby area.
I ejected the sat nav disk, reloaded it, seemed ok, then it did it again a day or two later. Was planning to tell BMW the satnav was **** on the next warranty sortie - booked in in a few weeks time for yet another troubleshooting episode of water ingress via the sunroof switch  and mirrors not dipping when I reverse  so thought they may as well do the satnav while it was there. Then it just started working again, and touch wood has been ok ever since.
I did hear somewhere that as more satellites pack up and are not replaced by the US, that these errors will start becoming more frequent, not sure if that was a factor.......

Re: SatNav is lost...
I tried ejecting and reinserting the Nav CD - no use.
Yesterday it righted itself with no intervention!
I guess now I will never get it fixed, until next time...

Weird!! Still at least it's OK now. There was something disconcerting about watching the Nav yooff on its own somewhere. Perhaps there's a fault in The Matrix.......
