Think you have to drill it into the bumper itself. Pm westside or g60renshaw as both have fitted them.

Just check coutposts and they can vary, depending on style. Some go under the bumper, some stop midway.

Didn't that one originate with the Italian Army's tanks have 1 forward gear and 6 reverse gears?

Probably one of the most pedestrian unfriendly things you could add to a car. They spend all that money designing cars to limit the damage to people in an impact, then people fit steel tubes to the front instead.

I`m sorry, but I just don`t get them.

with X5 being an SAV it won't make a huge difference whether you have a bull bar or not. if you get hit by an X5 you'll get hurt no matter what. my goal is to keep not hitting anything or anyone.

Rather be hit by a bull bar than my discovery winch bumper!

Absolutely, and the real answer is of course - Don't walk out in front of a moving vehicle. I'm sorry but if anyone steps out in front of a car then it's gonna hurt, bull bar or no bull bar!

Before you commit to anything, I came across the below and as these are a retrofit though I'd flag it in case it's been missed. I remember reading about it some time back for LandRover mods. Do your bull bars comply with the correct EU & UK Legislation? New rules came in on 25th May 2007 outlawing certain designs of these devices unless already fitted to a car (so you don't have to remove existing installations but new ones could be problematic - there is some debate over this on the web with some saying you can and others you can't fit them if non-compliant. You will have to declare them to your insurers though.

It is now illegal to manufacture and supply certain types - which is why you don't see many metal ones and those that are about are made of pedestrian and animal friendly plastic. All metal ones are now a definite no no! You may find that the fitters will want to see the paperwork in case they get clobbered. If imported from outside the EU you might just have a problem. See below...

Metal bull bars, nudge bars and non compliant Frontal Protection Systems (FPSs) will be banned by the new European Law but a new generation of energy absorbing products have shown that unlike their metal equivalents they significantly reduce the risk of pedestrian injury - making large 4 x 4s, SUVs and LCVs up to 50 times safer. Regulation under EU Directive 2005/66EC covers manufacture, importation and supply. The maximum penalty upon conviction to be imposed within the UK is 12 months in prison and a substantial £20,000 fine.

Ouch!

Bull bar install

Post by Rusty » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:40 pm

Based on that info, maybe a bar made from those balloons entertainers use would be more suitable?

Providing that is that all the pedestrians etc wear safety glasses and hearing protection in case one off the balloons pop and piece of rubber goes flying and/or the noise is too loud........

The world has gone mad, people should be on pavements, cars on roads and (well I suppose this is a type of justification) BMW's where ever they goddamn please......

:)
