Shortcuts on I drive

Post by Bolio » Mon May 28, 2012 4:52 pm

Hi all, I am in Tuscany at the moment on me hols. Drove down from Manchester with an overnight stop in Colmar France. Car has performed excellent got an average of 27 mpg which I don't think is bad as it was loaded to the hilt and as soon as I got across the water I was mostly doing speeds that would get you banned in England, all perfectly safe on open smooth autoroutes/autostradas and whatever the swiss call them. Anyways enough of boring you all with that, one thing that has got on me nerves is when changing a track on the USB when I have the sat nav on I have to go into main menu to change then back to main menu to get the sat nav back on the screen. Is there anyway of shortcutting between the 2. My I drive doesn't have the buttons around it like later models.
Thanks
Bolio

I thought the up and down arrows on the steering wheel let you move up and down the tracks?

Hi, yes the buttons do change the track but I made the mistake of putting a couple of thousand tracks on a USB. I did find out today whilst about that the directions still come on in the area of the display where the trip info is etc. So in theory I should still get an indication on which way I am going when messing about changing artist.

Slightly related i found that when using the Bluetooth phone via the steering wheel favourite button (i have star set up to shortcut to phone) if i navigate through the phone menus rather than just calling the first no then i cant get back to the previous screen, nav map in my case, using the favourite button again, it becomes redundant and i have to use the I Drive control to access navigation then go through the chore of nudging down to map options.

Surely the I drive can shorcut back like it used a shortcut to access the phone initially?

Have you got the 8-buttons on your iDrive system - not on the controller but the dash and below the CD/DVD slot? They can be programmed as 'quick keys' so that you can quickly got to a favourite function. You push the button fully home to store say 'Nav' on the first one and then when you want it you just have to touch that button. As an example I have the TP Function On/Off toggle on button 8 in mine.

The 'favourite' buttons came in on the CCC Update 1 in 2007 and by the time the E71 went into production should have been on it.....I hope. The current CIC system also has them.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Thanks yes I do have the buttons thanks I will give that a go, That should save a few choice words between me and the missus on the way back to England. Its great that 8 months into owner ship I am still finding out things on the car. As I don't really get to drive it much, the missus however is absolutely useless at using the gadgets for instance she uses the radio only can't use the sat nav and takes the Tom Tom out of me passat if she has to go anywhere, even though I have set up BMW connect on her iPhone( which is brilliant I find as it takes you pinpoint to your destination, must use coordinates of google maps ) also it's a good job she don't read my posts on here or I would be in the dog house

Thanks
