Buggered up my day, now grounded

Post by graemeX5 » Fri May 25, 2012 4:56 pm

Hi I had my day all planned out classic bike Yamaha RD350LC in for MOT at 10 am then back for lunch and then the X5 in for a MOT at 2pm and then accompany wife to docs afterwards.

Well you guessed it buggered it up good and proper, How I hear you ask well ...

I got the bike ready at 930 an got 1/2 mile fom house and bike broke down just died, so checked petrol ok checked choke switched lights off then tried kicking it over once twice third time caught my shin as I had done but this time very sore.

Then I looked down and had blood coming on to trainer, so pulled up my jean trouser leg and not pretty I had gashed my shin badly, dont want to say much more as its making me winch even now. So I put jeans down and decided to go to docs about 1/2 mile away, somehow got bike started using bad leg, and then I road with my right leg sticking out to docs. :o

At docs had to take seat and nearly fainted but nurse cleaned wound and taped it then bandage and said I had to go to hospital to have stitches! So rang my mother in law but she was tied up and wife at school teaching, so rang mate oe and he dropped me down the hospital, which I was very grateful for.

Some 3 X-rays and 2 examinations and then treatment of 7 stitches later I was fixed by two lovely nurses who I can't praise enough, they really don' t get paid enough for what they do, so by 1.45 pm I was ready to leave and come home with my wife picking me up.

The bike is being recovered this afternoon and taken to bike shop an it will be mot'd next week. Managed to have lunch and now my wife has locked me in the house and grounded in order to make sure I don't get into any more trouble!!! :poke:

Feeling better but tired from all the events of the day and now taken pain killers to help,

Not a good start to the day, but did you get the X MOT'd and if so did it pass?

Hope your leg heals soon mate.

PS, next time get a proper bike with an electric start. ;)

Thanks rusty nail for the best wishes, I deferred the X5 mot to Monday so fingers crossed for then.

Definitely a thought bout the electric start but I think I' ve had my fill of bikes and it was only being mot'd so I could put it up for sale as no really used it much over past 2 yrs.

Damn, that's gonna hurt in the morning! Not that it doesn't hurt right now.

Do hope you get sorted super quick! Hope wifey's not too annoyed with you! You were supposed to accompany her, not the other way round!

Take it easy though and don't try to rush back to normality too soon! Think the weather is good for another week!

Buggered up my day, now grounded

RD350 is that the power valve one with forks like drinking straws. Do believe commonly know as the widow maker for its wayward handling so lucky with the shin! On a serious note I've ripped skin kick starting bikes but it does sound like you got a nasty one this time. Feet up and enjoy the sunshine!

Sanj you're right it does hurt but taken some pain killers and I guess it could have bee worse if i'd broken it! Glad I didn't.

X5Driver is the LC from 1981 and the forks are a bit narrow got a micron fork brace on them doesn't make a lot of difference but the 2 stroke power and is addictive basically all or nothing

Thanks for the nice comments just intend to rest up this weekend

Hmm, that does sound very painful. I hope your wife is not of the breed of "that was your own fault so you deal with it" :D

I can recommend one of those little bells, you know, the old servant ones. Instant divorce I predict then

I remember the RD350LC well, a proper hooligan bike  . I couldn't afford one but my mate bought a later YPVS, which he wrote off the day he got it. He got a new one on the insurance and wrote that off and that was the end of that :fightwall:. I've had a big thumper kick back on me a few times and know how much that hurt so I do have sympathy, especially as the weather has turned so nice.

Buggered up my day, now grounded

Only real 2stroker I rode was a Suzuki RG250.

It was my mates and he was stupid enough to let me have a go.
Shortly after, he had a serious smash and moved on to cars.

I prefer the big bore sports/ sports tourers myself

Damn. Do not envy the shin incident but being grounded doesn't sound too bad...
