Engine Warning Light after tyre valve replacement.

Post by dark_stranger » Fri May 25, 2012 5:22 pm

Guys, just my car back from the BMW garage to have the tyre valves replaced, 5mins into the trip home and the engine warning light comes on (first time since getting car in Feb) , then odd smell and the window screen misted up. Coincidence or could this be a result of the work carried out? What could the problem be? I havent call the garage back yet.

Probably coincidence unless someone has loosened a radiator hose or something. What happened with the temp gauge, anything?

When the window screen misted up i did actually check the temp and it was fine. Quick blast of the blower sorted it, but we're down the beach, so not really misting up weather.

Would running a scanner on it, tell me the problem? As thinking of getting one.

It might.....not really used one. Several folks have this scanner 1.4. It could have been a slipping drive belt on the front of the engine. Have a look at the coolant level (cool engine if poss) and make sure it's OK.

The smell might have been the belt and the misting the A/C suddenly shutting off. Worth a look down the front of the engine just in case....
