I use Castrol Edge 5w30 LL04 which from ASDA is £35 for 4 litres. Euro Car Parts may well be cheaper with all the discount codes that are flying about at the moment.

Correct on both counts - 0W 30 was what I was told when I first had the car (5 years back) and half-way through ownership that changed to 5W 30. As long as it's LL04 spec you should be fine and as Denis O states, Asda have it for £35 but try ECP with their discount codes at the mo. Go for the Castrol Edge if you can.

Order on-line for pick up at your local store. You'll get the discount and also will know if the product is in stock.

I think it's no more than BMW Oils are Castrol. Nothing wrong with Mob 1, or any other oil as long as it meets the spec above...(although I'd go C3 personally with the X6 having a Cat). You don't need a '0W' or '40' grade oil in the UK as it neither gets cold enough or hot enough. '40' oil is a bit thick at UK average temps so will cost you more in fuel if used.
