Winter tyres?

Absolutely, I just thought it wasn't clear on the thread and worth pointing out to save confusion. I'm on the lookout for some winters for the X5 just now, trying to get a 20" set at a reasonable price to save me buying another set of wheels. I've tried a couple of lowish buy it now bids on ebay so far but no one's biting at the moment. Don't they realise it's nearly June.

ok, so If I've got this right....

The pic shows the snowflake but it also shows M&S (mud and snow) but it is ONLY if the snowflake appears along with the M&S that it is a truly suitable tyre for winter/snow/low temperature? other wise the M&S is more a general all terrain tyre?

Sorry If Im labouring the point but I want a specific snow terrain tyre and I suspect my local tyre dealership is trying to fob me off with an all terrain tyre

SNOWFLAKE CODING
Winter tyres are not only distinctive because of the sipes in the tread. There are also markings in the sidewall engraving that set official winter tyres apart from the rest. In addition to the standard M+S-coding, official winter tyres are also provided with a special snowflake symbol. This industry implemented standard indicates an official winter tyre has met all requirements.

Winter tyres are only granted this symbol when they have passed a series of brake test on snowy surfaces. All winter tyres supplied that have passed this testing method have the snowflake symbol in addition to the usual M+S markings.


The 'snowflake in a mountain' symbol is the US/Canada symbol and just the snowflake Is the EU symbol, but there are moves to standardise on the former.
