The X6 is a 2010 model.

Maybe my signature has confused you ...? It's a timeline of my cars from 1988 til 2012 not the age of the car!

Yes it did

Right 4k a year is low so battery overall has probably suffered

Mine was having fits for doing very low mileage before.

The 4x4 warning light is normal, it will dissappear once you drive off.

We'll see what BMW ES say, it is low but still puzzled as to what /why it drained just by having key in dash? Would have thought it would try and shutdown to preserve itself? Or have I seen too many 'machines take over the world' movies....?

Hopefully.... :driving: in a few hours!!!!

Mine has less than 7k on the clock (and just left on the recovery truck for fixing the electrical faults) and I've not had any problems of this sort (yet).

I'm not surprised about the Astra battery as the X6 unit is about twice the size so would take a while to come up. Even if you did let the battery to flat, BMW should not try to wriggle out of it (no doubt they will though) as the rescue service is to cover everything in the first three years.

For battery maintenance I use a CTEK 8-stage Battery Conditioner. CTEK are the ones BMW rebadge, double the price and sell as their own! By coincidence this thread popped up about charging yesterday..

The 4x4 light usually goes out if you move the steering from lock to lock (or at least that's what worked on the E53)

Right,

It's now running but it took about 40mins connected to his van, and it's now running on its own for another 30mins. BMW ES reckons that the canbus system alone takes 60amps and that would have running all the time the key was in the dash. Once the battery dropped below 40% charge the IBS would have started to shutdown certain things but not totally hence the total drain, down to 0%!

Battery charge levels are normally 70-80% unless, he has advised that I trickle charge it overnight for next few days to restore the battery to full capacity, does not think there'll be any lasting damage!

Finally, I was open & honest as to why the battery was flat, which was a good thing as the OBD knew exactly what time things happened!!

Glad it's sorted. The rescue guy 'Carl' also told me that the on board system records exactly what happened and when!

As your good lady was driving when yours broke, have you told her this fact? :fuelfire:

By the way, full of praise for the BMW ES, the guy knew his stuff and all in all a very good service! He was even early, told via text message he'd be with me 9.15, knocking on the door at 9.05! I didn't buy the car via a main dealer so was a little worried there may have been a fee or some kind of issue, but no, "...fully covered with nothing to pay sir!..." Sir, yes, could get used to that....!

Right, there's more!

Scrub the full of praise comment above!

My I-Drive display is locked on one the telephone screens!

Guess he may have left it in a certain diagnostic mode? Bugger!

Gonna call BMW ES again!

You can always try the 'take the battery off for 10 mins reset'......

It was the first thing he did with mine ( as instructed by his laptop/tablet PC ).... ;)
