Just an update on the X, had to take it local to be fixed. Alternator supply and fit £250, BMW wanted £780 and rung back 3 hrs after i first contacting them this morning.
Could not have got it to BMW with out towing or AA breakdown.
But good news is it will be fixed today
Cheers

BMW want WHAT to change the alternator? £780!!! That's taking the p!ss. No wonder people are turning away from main dealers for any work. Jeezuz H!!

The alternator from BMW is something like £500 odd though. Is the alternator being supplied within the £250 recon/secondhand?

Got it back it was £208 for a bosh alternator then £42 to fit it, unsure if this was new or recon.
Yes £780 for supply and fit from the dealers, there is 3 different ones on my X. £780 was for the 140A and it was £100 cheaper if it had the 90A. But they would have hovered and washed the car in that price lol.

I'd have expected them to be able to do more than 'hover' at that price...
Hope it's all sorted now though..

Well I hope so to, mind you it's only cost me £570 in repairs so far in 10ish months. But MOT due in 2 months, and it's got a slight knock coming from the OSF.
Don't no how good the no9 volt test is on the hidden menu, but it's on 13.7-8 earlier today.

All still well? Assuming from the silence that the alternator change has sorted it..

Yes mate all sorted and seems fine now, just a little knock needs sorting from the OSF.
Ho and probable a drive shaft as the OSF rubber boot was spilt a few months back, so these can get done before MOT end of this month.
