Any advice for buying used
Hi,
Getting closer to buying an X5. Probably wouldn't be new due to value for money.
Looking for:
3rd-row seating
Sun roof
Satnav and media pak
Reversing camera
heated front seats
Napa leather seats would be nice.
Nice to have: BMW Professional sound.
I only drive 5K miles per year and I guess I'll be looking for something newer than 07 due to the 3rd row seating.
Any advice on what I should be looking for, haggling, AUC vs other dealer, etc.? What should be a good price to pay for this spec?
I will be exchanging a 03 Lexus RX300 SE-L 45K miles for this new (for me) ride?
Thanks!

Yes you will want to wait a few months for mine!
Carefully check the sunroof in all positions as they are a known weak point
If looking at single turbo diesel check age/emissions as some early ones fell in to the higher road tax bracket!
Take a good test drive. You will find the ride bumpy after the Lexus (blame the run flats for that) but it will be a far nicer drive. Depends what floats your boat on that one
MSports with 20" wheels suffer from stone chipping on the rear arches.

Have considered RX300 SE-L in past myself before, ( prior to buying the X5 as well as during ownership)...Mark Levison HI-Fi & reverse cam as standard on SE-L so nice spec out of the box.
I have faith in Toyota having had 6 in the family & all pretty cost efective in ownership relative to the BMW ownership..........That said E70 X5 seems a little more relaible than E53.

I'm in no rush. I can wait to secure a spanking deal! lol
When are you looking to sell? Are you going to get another one?

The Lexus has been great. I would highly recommend it to anyone. At 10 years old, it runs great an (touch wood) I haven't had any major problems with it besides the air suspension.
Though, I am looking for seven seats and though the third row in the X5 are barely usable, it would be nice to have a change from the Lexus. Don't get me wrong, I love the Lexus and it sets a really high bar on quality, however, it's getting to be a bit boring.

End of September
I don't have third row seating though.
No something different, in style too.
Hi,
Getting closer to buying an X5.
Thanks!
I'm on the market as well for a 35d M sport with 7 seats, pan roof & xenons as a minimum spec... Based on my searches so far a decent spec will be £25k+ dependant on mileage/age from AUC. Slighty less if private.
Finding Nappa & Professional sound is pot luck if you buy outside AUC, as most private sellers/traders don't seem to have a clue what options are fitted apart from the obvious 7 seats, pan roof, sat nav, etc.
I'm still trying to figure out how the conditonal based servicing works so I can verify the cars history.
Good luck with your search, I'm hoping to find one soon.
Cheers

Re: Any advice for buying used
Conditional based servicing is approx every 18,000 miles if driven in an average way, shorter if used in a more 'spirited fashion. Unless BMW have altered it, I think it runs Oil > Insp 1 > Oil > Insp 2 > then repeats. There is also a two-year cycle which covers brake fluid and possibly other fluids like coolant, and if you don't do the mileage then the service will be done at the same time.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

@Highintensity - Any luck with the search yet?

Re: Any advice for buying used
JUst remember that CBS servicing can be reset by unscrupulous sellers, make sure you ask to see invoices to prove work was done.
Tyres are mega expensive especially if 20", approx £1200 for a set so make sure any car you buy has good rubber. Brakes also don't last overly long so make sure it isn't needing a full set of disks and pads.
Electric boot release is a great option to have too. I don't have reversing camera and work just fine with the sensors and on screen graphics. Camera can be retro fitted if you really want it and find a car thats perfect but doesn't have it.
