HID help?

Post by jeegnesh » Tue May 01, 2012 2:09 pm

Always wanted Xenon lights but did not want to pay the hids4u £150 (as you'd expect from me). Saw these on eBay my kinda price but am wondering if there a catch?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H7-XENON-HID- ... 0788757062

There are others too £50/60 happy to go up to £60, anyone able to suggest if any of these are good or other reasonably priced conversions?

You will need some stuff to get rid of the warning messages on the bus though.

As above - but they appear to offer some kind of device in another listing (lower down the page). Of course you can turn bulb checking off with a scanner too

IMHO these look way too cheap.......and I doubt the manufacturer is 'Audi' as stated somehow.... But then I'm a suspicious sort - in the right way pvr!!

But it's your money, your decision as they say. The interwebs are alive with complaints about nasty cheap Chinese lamps, however these are supported by a 12-month no quibble warranty which is reassuring..

Here you go or These. Not sure where you thought they were £150 odd. Both will be error free and hids direct is a decent company to deal with.

Thanks peoples, links very helpful. I don't want to go cheap in the sense of crap, and not sure where I got £150 I think I just entered make and model on hids4u long back and thats what came up, the links you provide fit into my price band nicely especially for the light benefit was struggling on the M1 yesterday.

Raj any idea on the diff between the two and should I assume for pure white go for 4300k? I take it these would all be MOT'able, i have jet washes and self-levelling.

The difference is really the ballasts used. The more expensive is a slim fit ballast unit but tbh I'm running the cheaper one in the fogs on mine.

If you want OE then yes 4300k. I'm running 6000k in both fogs and my OE xenons too as I've replaced the OE xenon bulbs.

I don't personally think you will have any issues with MOT as you have washers, and projectors so for all visual purposes they look OE.

Doess 6000k have hint of blue and 4300k white?

What about the 35w and 50w how's that come into the picture?

I thinks thats everything, honest :-)

35W is the standard, 50W will be a little brighter. 4,300K is a 'warmer' more natural light than 6,000K which is the same colour temperature as an electronic flash so yes, slightly bluer - a bit like the air around Sanj by the looks of things..

Come on what's all this I business, WE... Cheers man hopefully you should feel better now just what the doctor ordered a little car surgery.

So 50w 4300 would be white and brighter then OEM I take it brightness is within legal limit if there is such a thing I know I've been blinded many a time.

Same white colour, just brighter. As long as the 'focal point' is the same, and the lights are correctly set up you should not have glare issues.

The ones that cause more issues are the conversions to conventional lights where the 'sweet spot' for the filament lamp isn't where the HID emits from, so the beam pattern is wrong, or alternatively they're not adjusted correctly (and that can be at delivery even on OEM installs :x ).

Be aware of the new regs before you fit.

My X was still on halogens when it was MOT'd back in January but SWMBO's P38 has aftermarket HIDS and sailed through it's MOT in April.

It appears that with self leveling suspension and headlamp washers you will be fine.
