Puncture Question
Puncture Question
Can't find my handbook , hence reason for stupid question. Is there a kit or something in the X5 ? (61 reg) (2011). I have runflats, what do I do if I get a puncture? limp to the nearest tyre depot or is there something in the car I inflate with ?

Limp if you have to or if you haven't run it flat and have an option stop and get it repaired before sidewall damage done
If you have tyre insurance just carry on as normal and destroy the tyre well maybe 50mph

Re: Puncture Question
No kit in the car, but you can buy one from BMW - for a suitable fee of course..
You can get kits from motor factors too. Here's another version from your on-line auction site too..
They make a mess inside, but will let you carry on your way..but Slime is less messy.

Re: Puncture Question
Pass.......but I guess they let you ignore the flat? Belt and braces approach.
When I got a puncture, the tyre got kind of warm. Limp mode and replace is the correct way. You could also install Puncturesafe. Or buy the emergency spare kit if you have a 5-seater.
Like you, I have tyre insurance but that assumes the Dealer/Tyre place has one in stock. If you're driving on the Continent then the local tyre place may take 4-days to get a replacement for you.
Come to think of it, the more I think about run flats the more disadvantages I can see - even if they are safer (allegedly).

I'm driving on the continent shortly & if no tyre is available then this may sort the problem.

I'm not sure the sealant will help anymore, I thought they had same life as a run flat ie 50miles or so?

Don't know , but it might just do the trick on a slow puncture. It's worth a try anyway. Off to Poland & Czech Rep within the next 2 weeks and then south of France in June

Re: Puncture Question
I think the things i have read say that you can go 100 miles at upto 50mph. Tyre insurance is a good investment as most garages wont repair a runflat. Think tyre insurance will cover you for a fee on the continent.
Not having a spare is not helpful.......Im going to have to put one of the winters on whilst i try and get the cracked alloy repaired.
Enjoy the trip over to poland and the czech republic......the german autobahns should be fun
