Insurers getting tough on offenders

If the article in the current Auto Express is anything to go by, the days of insurers not being interested in SP30 penalties are gone! Insurers were ignoring them because so many people were getting caught and drivers weren't used to Scameras. Now we are they are going to clobber you by up to 11% on your premiums for one offence and a lot more for a second. Cynically, does else anyone think 'financial opportunity' like I do?

What will make some sit up though is that if you get a CU80 (handheld mobile) penalty, 50% of the insurers polled refused to offer cover. Those that would offer cover increased premiums by between 13% and 32%. I have to admit that I agree wholeheartedly with this approach. Of course you do have to be caught, and that is a rare thing given how few Police vehicles there are out and about away from the urban areas, and especially Traffic Police ones.

I personally think that they are looking for any excuse to up the premiums to pay for the un-insured drivers, last I heard it was at least 10% of your premium went into the pot to cover against this sort of scum.
Until they come down hard, and I mean hard, on the un-insured out there, ( who normally don't have any mot/tax/license ), then insurance will always increase at an alarming rate, and for any reason.
We are just easy targets. But mobile phones, well, don't get me started.

I was driving down the M25 last Friday, yes I was actually moving on it, and on the inside lane was this, shall we say, person, window wide open, fag in his right hand and phone in his left, and not a care in the world.

agreed....my car suffered a non insured hit and the police covered their knowledge of the offending car with data protection sh!te

I have been caught many years ago using the phone, in fact it was only months after they started issuing points for it. Since then I have learned my lesson and it's become a pet hate. A bit like the smoker that's given up lol
