at last I am now an X5 owner

Post by Cannondale » Sat Apr 21, 2012 8:03 pm

After a few weeks looking I have now got an X5 at last

I was in two minds between a Derv of V8 like many. But after reading many posts on here and asking a few questions and a few test drives later, I have finaly taken the plunge and got a 4.8is

It is a 2005 in Carbon Black, 59,000 miles with full history from the suppliing dealer. I bought it of the oringinal onwer who has had it from day 1. It is still under BMW extended waranty and had wanted for nothing by the looks of it.Some spec that I know

Individual sunshade glazing
Navigation system ProfessionalTV function
HiFi system Professional DSP
Footplate, aluminium
Climate comfort windscreen
Panorama glass roof
Interior/outside mirror with auto dip
Fine wood trim
Electric seat backrest adjustment, rear
Seat heating, rear
Park Distance Control (PDC)
Rear Air conditioning, rear
Preparation, mobile phone, Business

Not sure what some of it is,

One quick question what is the best way to conect an Ipod to it?

Congrats and well done on the V8!! I loved mine I'm sure you will too sounds like you got a nice one and decent mileage! Get some pics up ...also if you are bothered about economy talk to jason (BW Chiptune) and get one of his maps on it, I got about +30-40bhp and improved economy when he did mine!

Simplest way is via the BMW OEM iPod kit. That uses the aux port on the back of the head unit and provides a 3.5mm jack socket in the glovebox. You connect a lead between the iPod's headphone socket and the aux port socket.

You have to drive the iPod manually and it will not charge. There is no USB capability in the E53. After that you're into addon systems like the intravee (cue Sanj). Integrated systems only came in with the E70/71 models.

Congrats on the car....

Congratulations - in my view a great engine in a great car.
Plenty of IPOD advice on here - I think it depends what you want to achieve.
I bought and fitted intravee + alpine (which replaces boot CD player and ran cable into central cubbyhole. I am not very keen on taking things apart/mods but found it easy to do - about an hour or so.
The two key bits cost slightly over £200 from memory and Alpine 420s are on ebay.
It gave me the functionality I wanted and my music collection. I've bought an old IPOD classic which lives in the car (and is charged) and then taken inside and updated periodically on PC.
Not quite so sure it is as good if you have an iphone but others can comment.

Huge congrats and look forward to the pics.

I still love mine to bits and the sound is superb.

You can do me a favour please as I'm interested in the option - Electric seat backrest adjustment, rear

Could you take a close up pic of the boot side panels as I'm planning a retro fit of this option.
