Car wash after service

Post by Bolio » Sat Apr 21, 2012 3:17 pm

Just picked up my x6 from Williams BMW this morning, it was due an oil service and whilst it was in I told them to do the vehicle inspection as it was only a couple of thousand miles off. They done the courtesy wash as normal but I am not kidding my 4 year old daughter could have done a better job, it just looks like they have blasted it with a jet wash and that's it. Half of the panels still filthy no tyre black or anything. I have always taken my cars to BMW for servicing and they usually do an ok job, must be the cutbacks I mean what do you expect for £100 per hour labour  . Needless to say i have just cleaned it myself so all is fine now  . That's my rant for the day over

At least you didn't get your car back with black dirty boot prints on your cream leather! That's what I found in mine when the tyres were swapped over. After a few 'choice words of advice' were delivered in a calm but firm way in the Dealership, the car was redone, and the leather was spotless.

It will now go in with a large DO NOT CLEAN notice in the car. Hosepipe ban may be in place here but I have 660litres of stored water.. :D

Mind you, it hasn't exactly been dry since the ban was announced, and next week won't be any better! :?

Ditto that - as X5Sport I have sign which I place on dash,(as well as politely asking the service advisor to ensure it is not washed).

It is frankly too time consuming to me if they wash it badly & I have to wash it or use other methods to remove marks or even scratches caused by a poor service wash. One dealer used a hydroblade which left a 6 inch scratch, (since corrected) !

Sytner Sutton Coldfield do actually quite a good job when it is hand washed. The free courtesy wash is mechanical (ie car wash) but if specific they do if by hand properly (usually at a slight additional cost but I don't pay that...lol).

Surely if it's a chargeable service then its not a courtesy

Agreed. That's why I stated the courtesy wash is a normal mechanical carwash but if you want the handwash then it is a paid service (but I don't pay this additional charge).

I would only let people who could do a better job than me clean my car...and as that's no-one, I clean it myself! :poke:

Sorry I read it as a courtesy hand wash if requested.

Our BMW dealership here in Belfast offer a free car wash to customers on Saturdays. In the past when I was a customer I used to take advantage of this service and while I waited I had a free coffee and a choice of cream buns while they washed and hoovered my car. They did a terrific job and always did the tyres, I guess it's down to the dealership!

Sounds like a good scheme....

I know my Dealer had just changed their contractor and the way to treat cars was obviously still on the learning curve. The previous contractor always missed the roof! If you're under 6-foot then you would probably never notice, but if like me you're over 6'3" then it was obvious.

Abarth Dealers in Bristol run a a free carwash whenever you need. Just pop into dealers and let them do there thing.

Did wash mine once when I had some work done on it as I forgot to tell them not to but was surprised as it was not bad
