Insurance renewal...........

Post by sapphireblack » Fri Apr 20, 2012 4:07 pm

...arrived this morning and consdiering the expensive bump recently (£1300) i was surprised to see the premium at £552 from £460 last year, but it's still c£100 more :(

So i went on-line and tried a few alternatives, Rias being one that stuck in my mind for us older guys to consider. After the tedious form filling and up front declaration of the bump and the now ageing 2008 dated SP30, their premium was an interesting £1272.00 :o For a car valued at £5K doing about 4000 miles pa

Where do 'they' get these figures and who pockets all these wallet raping funds

Insurance costs have rocketed this year due to 'losses' in the industry as a whole - not just in motor - and we're all getting hit for it. I've seen some really silly quotes with BMW GB being the worst at over £1,400.

I think my policy went up about £90 this year and I have had no claims against me in 30 years! The last claim I made was 17 months ago and the 3rd party accepted full liability (well he did back into me whilst I was stationary in a Car Park!) and my NCD is fully protected too....

SAGA were the best, but only by £10, so it wasn't worth changing it. I think I'm paying about the same as you on the X6. Shocking how pricey it is now, but be grateful you aren't 17........they get hammered now :o

My 2003 SP30 made no difference to the car, but the bike went up £50! I wasn't even on the bike at the time either....g!ts :headbang:

Until last year i was for many years with NFU Mutual, a legacy of past Land Rover ownership, i left as with no claims etc like yourself, the premium rose by a cool 75%. That was based on industry losses. So if we're getting turned over as we are and they're still losing, surely they need a kick in the pants to manage business better.

I well remember the old cliche of being in my teens and it will get cheaper when you pass 21. Which became when you reach 25 which became............ Now i'm north of 60 yoa it's getting more costly again accepting my stupidity with the recent bump.

It won't be long before we'll have to revert to horse and cart, the cost to insure, fuel and maintain is fast becoming an unfunny joke

I can't see any logic with the increases.

My insurance was £1,250 on a 320D and then I got some pesky points and it went up to £2,200! this year it dropped down to £1,300 so not to bad. my points will be gone end of this year so should see a nicer drop.

The x5 is my wifes which we had to change her old policy 3 months in so its not the cheapest at £920. I know if i was starting a new policy i could find one for under £800 which i don't think is to bad for a 4.4 litre engine.

The fact is never accept any renewal quote  :headbang: Insurance companies don't give a fcuk to loyalty and will bump premiums every time. Always use the freindly meerkat site or other comparisson site to see how much better you could do and then go back to current and discuss. Has always worked for me and LV have always been happy to re-quote to compete. The OH's 1er endded up being cheaper than last year

Limited mileage and that cost sounds expensive to me. :fuelfire:

Limited mileage :poke: big issue with 535 :headbang: should pull his finger out or pass the rocket over to someone who would use it more ;) still I would say £660 is cheap for that car, probably insured in the 'current' Mrs 535's name :driving:

Igot quoted 500 fcomp for the X5 with aviva but security required. However I still had to insure my previous car which is modified so I went with existing one as aviva don't lie modified cars so X5 cost 770.

But saying that the art car f/comp and wife and business use is 219 which is good.
