Help or advice with SATNAV voice volume please.

Post by AW8 » Wed Sep 08, 2010 10:32 pm

I cant seem to adjust the volume settings of the voice in NAV. Current setting is fine , however, I dont seem to be able to adjust it easily.

I used the following guide to set things up exactly as author has. Link here.

I have since adjusted the nav volume adjust via normal set menu but it still proclaims louder and quieter without me hearing any difference in volume.

Naively in 2006 I bought a cable of some bloke on ebay. After face to face selling me the cable he offered FREE OF CHARGE to upgrade my MK3 NAV OS firmware. Thinking about it I should have refused or at least paid more attention.........I cant comment as to whether he used an OE disc or not.

Iirc the volume change via set menu worked okay before I changed the battery in 2008 & thus I suspected I may had forced an OS reboot when I did this, however, in "set menu" OS shows 3-1/63. In service menu software version shows 31-01-60 though not sure what this relates to.......Any ideas ???

Please understand I have to ask folk to reply without openly recommending or advocating illegal software or it's use.

Thanks in advance.

Just to point out something obvious - the radio volume button also changes the volume of the satnav, and if that is set way too low, the quieter and louder words do not change in volume.

To test this, put the radio volume up quite a bit, then go in settings and do the nav volume.

SatNav volume has always been an issue for me too. I find if the Intravee and radio are off the volume is louder and when I put either on, the volume comes back down a bit.

Led me to believe there is only a compromise you can hit here with lots of messing about. You probably know this bit already but I got a copy from the old site - x44 to thank for this:

Follow these steps exactly some may not be necessary, but this worked on mine.

1 - Unlock car, get in and turn ignition to position 2
2 - Press Menu once
3 - Press and hold RHS of Tone Select for about 10 secs - screen will change from Menu to a radio display and back to Menu
4 - Press RHS of key, just below Tone Select and press again until you reach TP Volume
5 - Adjust TP Volume using keys 1 and 2
6 - Switch off ignition once you have chosen level.

I know there are other ways to drop into the TP volume so this may not work. I had to adjust mine on BOTH the TP and Nav Volume settings.

Not much help, I know but I hope you can find a compromise, Do change that TP value.

Thanks for comments thus far.

I have the relevant manual but thanks for offer.

Sanj the intructions you gave to adjust are effectively same as I linked but thanks anyway.

If anyone has specific GAL TP or NAV volume settings that work well then perhaps please share so I can experiment with same.

I also had this problem. I now have the E46 (52 plate) which I'm pretty sure has the same nav set up as my old X5, but this is how it works in the 3series. And apologies if you already know this.

The Nav Volume in the settings is actually the volume of the nav voice in relation to the volume of the stereo, not purely the nav volume. I adjusted the TP volume in the 'secret' menu as Sanj explained, which is nav voice and phone volume I believe.

But, you can also adjust the volume of the nav voice and the phone on the hoof by 'only' using the volume button on the steering wheel, not the vol button on the actualy head unit. You have to adjust it 'while' the nav is speaking to you, so you have to be quick on the button, or just hit the repeat instruction and do it then. And during a phone call you can adjust the volume using the steering wheel buttons.

Thats how it works for me anyway! :)

Again duly noted with thanks.

I have tried changing volume by hitting selecting journey intructions & moving vol up and down when she is forced to repeat the phrase " Please proceed to the planned route." Not convinced the volume adjustment thereafter changes things.

Despite above others specific values of TP GAL & Nav Volume slider position are still appreciated.............Particularly interested to hear from folk who owned from new, (pvr?), &/or those who are confident values haven't been tampered with from factory settings.

AW8, my values are not from new but acceptable - not too loud and not to low, not to be heard. I have the two little one's to worry about - don't like to frighten them with the audio level. If you like I can get some pics up tomorrow of my settings...? I do have the Intravee - not sure if that makes the whole setup behave differently though?

OK - not very helpful here - no value to the TP - zero.

The Menu, SatNav option shows 'just' above half way... :|

it seems some people have it and some dont?~  whats the critera?
