New run flat blow out

Less than 500 miles on the tyre and it blows out!
Paid over £500 for replacement tyre 1 month ago since it had nail in.
The new tyre blew today on the M1. Nightmare...

Any come back on the supplier/installer here?

I suppose the obvious question is why did it blow out, another foreign body? It's a difficult one to answer unless you can prove it was a manufacturers/installers fault.

Do you mean a proper blow out, or just a fast puncture? You certainly ought to have some comeback if it's the former! Not nice, and worse still on a major route with traffic at speed.

The usual causes of a proper blowout include large debris or running under/over inflated, or faulty build/installation. I know when mine went, it was 2"x 1/4" steel stud that went through the centre of the tread. The warning went, but the only way I could work out which wheel it was, was by checking the temperature. The 'flat' was very much warmer than the other three. Interestingly, that tyre was patched, although strictly they're not supposed to.

I'm very glad you're OK, and there wasn't an 'incident'.

Why BMW don't fit the full RFT TPMS system to these cars I don't understand - except on cost grounds, and because in Europe 'they don't have to' - given the price of these cars!

Doesn't it always make you think how the hell that screw/object managed to get into the tyre in the first place.
I now a chap that I used to work with, an engineer by trade, ( well, an electrician really ), who rode a motorbike but didn't really have a clue about maintenance of one, he came to work one day and mentioned to us that he had a puncture/screw in his rear tyre, and had left the bike at home, he wanted to know what to do about it, well, as we all know, bike wheels are not the hardest things to remove, so we tried to talk him through the procedure.
Then, jokingly, one of the guys said, "why don't you just get a bigger screw and drive that in there and pump the tyre up and ride down the tyre place for them to remove and fix".
Anyway, didn't think any more of it for a while, then a couple of weeks later we see him arrive for work riding his bike, so later that day we mentioned about the puncture, you know what I'm going to say, don't you, yes, he'd actually screwed a bigger screw in and rode it down to get it fixed. :rofl:

Maybe the tyre insurance is good idea after all. 2 tyres = £1000 so far!

That almost looks like the bead wasn't seated correctly. Well done you getting out of the way and stopped. A non run flat failure like that would have been very different, even to the extent of a rollover as the car slewed! Most of us would stand little chance of keeping that under control, less so if that had been front instead of rear!

Doesn't bear thinking about really, does it! :?

That doesn't look good at all, glad to know all are ok.
Maybe worth an indie. inspection of the tyre/wheel before going for the jugular, that way you have some come back in case of any argument.
Definately take someone to the cleaners, as has been said, it could have been a lot worse.

Defo have a close inspection first before giving the tyre garage some grief.

The tyre was fitted via Blackcircles who are responsible company I guess.

BMW next time tho. Worth the extra for them to check it over.

That looks nasty and definitly shouldnt happen.......get an independant inspection as that looks more like damage on the bead in fitting the tyre......the tyre walls on these are very unforgiving and it looks like its been man handled.......that or a tyre problem.

What tyres are you fitting anyway? Just had 2 Bridgestone 315/elasticband/20 fitted for £289 each.

One of them was done on the tyre insurance as it had a puncture.

Had the tyre insurance for 6 months and have used it twice already......insurance was £300 for 3 years - covers 5 tyres a year

Its the problem with having an unrepairable tyre and living in london :(

out of interest would a 60 reg m3 have rfts on as i passed one on the hard shoulder on the a1 the other day and one of the rear tyres was totally shreaded then 100yrs up the road was the m3 sat on the rim, it looked like it could have been very nasty!!

M cars don't have run flats I don't think

Perhaps the TPMS was an option not ticked....... :(

I wonder why no RFTs? It's not as if the harshness of the ride is something of real interest to an 'M' Owner.......the harder the better!!
