80k service and new air filter?

Cheers picked up Oil during xmas offers, so am good there.
Last concern is just around whether the fuel filter needs to be done or not.

Hey Jig!
I fitted a K&N to mine. The only difference I noticed was a raspier sound through the inlet, and slightly smoother power delivery (nothing to write home about)
I suppose the only other benefit is that it can be cleaned, oiled and reused (but this takes a few hours- because you have to let it dry thoroughly after washing it- PITA!). TBH i wouldn't bother with another one. Its easier just to buy a complete new filter each time.
You probably know already, but the OE air filters are made by Mann- which of course you can get from Euro car parts. And as X5sport said worth replacing the breather- dealer only i think.
Finally as you've got the covers off, just check all the boost hoses and tighten the jubilee clips if theres any oil around the joints.
If it was me, I'd replace the fuel filter as well- easy to get to and only takes a couple of minutes to change. About £30 IIRC.

Re: 80k service and new air filter?
Unless you know they changed the filter at the same time, then I would replace it. Not an expensive item in the BMW scheme of things...
Certainly cheaper than injectors!
And as above - check all the hoses are good and refit them BEFORE you put it all back together. We don't need another 'I've lost all my power' thread..
With reference to the earlier oil offers, the 'right' oil isn't on offer at present. It's still £47 a can, and of course you need two.
But you're already sorted on that front

Does the 40d use the same oil as the E53 3.0d?

Re: 80k service and new air filter?
According to the Castrol Edge website the right oil is this one:
40D Castrol Edge recommended oil
It seems to have the same part number so I guess the answer is yes it is the same, but some say use 0W-30 as an option. This is a 5W-30.

Re: 80k service and new air filter?
I certainly would not put the Magnawreck option in mine anyway......
It is listed, but oil is one of those 'Critical Components' that I never go cheap on. I'm sure it's technically fine but...........

Re: 80k service and new air filter?
Still have the 4 packs I bought from Opie, might use that as an interim oil change as I have the all inclusive service package.

I had the initial oil changed at 1,200 miles too. I know that strictly it isn't needed, but the thought of any fine swarf from a new engine floating about meant I was more comfortable with it out and the filter replaced.
