Battery flat this morn
Ok so i go out to my car at 05:20 this morn, but the cars battery was flat, just click click, lights flicker, a few bong sounds. So Now i'm up at daft O'clock for nothing, i might as well get some info on the matter.
A few days ago i noticed the fan inside the car was not shutting down as fast, when i left the car i could still here it turning. I thought nothing of this as it's been hot over the last few days, and thought because it's almost at full speed, it would take longer to stop.
Now i'm thinking that this is not allowing the car to sleep, and has cause my flat battery problem. The FSR was replaced just short of a yr ago, maybe 10 months, could this be the problem.

Tbh I've known of a brand new FSR go after 5 months. Might certainly be worth a look. If it has gone again then should be under warranty (did the dealer replace it or DIY?). If dealer then covered by 2 year warranty and if DIY the atleast a year if you have the receipt.

Well next door's just got it stared, his got a 5'er so we just take in turns of starting each others car LOL.
I'm off to BMW to get a new FSR, the other one was replaced via the dealer i bought it from, none BMW ATBH i want nothing more to do with them.
So cheers for the reply and info regarding the not so long lasting reliabilty of them, makes me now think that this is 100% cause.

I do hope it is just that. If you're friendly with your dealer then try it and if not that then take it back. Always good to get in well with the parts counter staff...lol

LoL i'm friendly with every body
Mine was a Valeo part there are 2 types on my yr build, so had to check my car to see witch one was fitted, lucky for me i got the last one.
Will post back if this does not work.

ULF on older phone set up can cause a drain also. Prod diagnostic iss the way forward unless you witness fan still running after amber auto light &/or master interior door lock switch lights out.

My in car phone suddenly started causing trouble as it would 'wake-up' on its own and that wakes the whole car. I used to physically switch the handset off and BMW reset it to shut down after 10 mins. Never had any more problems. I had the Siemens bluetooth handset in the armrest.
Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Google searching this morning came up with a phone waking the car up from its not so deep sleep.
I don't have the phone in the car, so ruled it out. Can this still be the case, if so what do I do in order to stop it waking.
On the plus side the new gen BMW FSR is fitted, just charging the battery just in case it went to flat this morning.
Up on removing the old FSR it looked new, so must have been replaced 10 months ago. But no part numbers and no stickers, so may be a copy of some sort.

Did a few tests on the OBC with the volt checker, number 9.
When the car is running it reads 13.4-5 volts, when the engines off, it was 12.
This morning before it was started it was on 11.8, so as lost .2 to me this seems low. Can any body on here tell me by doing the same what yours is doing, when running and after a parked night.

Can"t help with the menus, but a fully charged battery should be around 12.6V, and the alternator running on a charged battery should read 14.4V or thereabouts. Readings should be taken not less than 4 hours after the engine stops so that any residual charges settle down again.
Given the load on the car when it is woken up, 11.8 is still a wee bit low, although given it was dead yesterday it will take an overnight charge to bring it fully back up, and there will be some errors in the readout unless using a decent external meter - and the car 'asleep'. It also takes approximately 20mins of normal running to put the starting charge used back into the battery. How old is your battery?

Well this was also replace 10 months ago when I bought it, it did get charged on a fast charge and was full in about 2 hrs. But this again is a cheapo get it working sell it type battery, so will be a wise choice to replace this.
What are the recommended battery's for this type or car.

Bosch Silver Plus S5 or S6 seem to be popular with many here. The number is the length of the warranty in years. I think the S5 that went in my E53 15 months ago was about £110, but that was from Halfrauds as it was a 'Need it now' purchase one freezing Saturday morning.

I tend to when I'm working - but been stuck at home after this spinal injury since Xmas.......be allowed back in May I hope. Haven't driven since Boxing Day....
Won't even be allowed to lift anything as heavy as a car battery now. Good thing the X6 wheels are with the Dealer because I sure as hell can't move them about. Need a forklift or at least forks on a tractor (there's your next purchase pvr ). Those puppies are heavy! So much for 'light alloy'
