tail gate lid switch

Post by strummer » Thu Mar 29, 2012 6:14 pm

Hi
My upper tailgate stopped opening on the buttons some time ago, altho it still opens with the key fob,I got a brand new unit and fitted it today but its still not working, the two small lights in the unit also dont work on both old and new units so looks like no power getting thru, all the other interior lights work, any ideas?

Checked the fuse panel in the right rear cubby? Assuming all the wires are connected? Not sure if there is also a fuse for it in the front fusebox - above the glovebox.

Sounds like you might need to do a continuity check between the lock wiring and wherever it comes into the vehicle. Could also be a missing earth connection. I can't remember which side the cable runs are (sold mine now) but the wires may com down the RHS rear pillar into rear fuse pael or relay panel, or down to the floor panel to come forward.

just realised the two lights are for the number plate illumination and they are working with the lights on.Could it be a fault with the lock itself?

Is there any power to the lock? Have you got a meter or 12v test light to check if anything happens power wise when you push the release buttons on either the tailgate, release button inside the car, or on the car key? There must be power on it at some point for it to operate. But I don't know where that power comes from circuit wise.

The one thing I think a lot of folks want to get hold of is a wiring diagram for these cars. It's guesswork without one! :?
