Just got the Richer Sounds free brochure through the post...

Remember seeing those ultra wide 21:9 Phillips screens a year ago, M&S in Camberley bragged about being one of two units and they were showing it, £4499.99!!!! Yours from Richer Sounds today with a 5 yrs guarantee for £1699.00!!!! Shame there's not films available in that format...

Not sure if you've bought yet, but have a good look at Panasonic plasmas.

I have a 42" and it's brilliant. Having done some light research through PH and AV Forums they appear to be worth every penny and come highly rated.

Then go and tap PVR for a good discount on some gadgets and you're away!

Good call mogs, bought my first plasma 9 years ago, one of the first. And yes it was hugely expensive and so early it has no HD, but it has an excellent picture quality. I'd rate them any day.

Never gonna change it, need to get my money back!!!!!!

Mogs & Sanj,

Feeling even better about the v.f.m. aspect of my recent £350 42" Panny Plasma purchase.

I get the decent technology eventually albeit it goes out of date quicker.

They are ridiculously cheaper nowadays and I did help get one for my parents - just so happens that the pic is very pixelated (I'm hoping that's and old Sat Box).

But for the money and the space you save - how can you knock them. I remember I was about to buy a 36" Sony CRT and it was 24" deep!!!! That's half my lounge!!!!

Have to mention the Pioneers here, they were probably THE best - past tense as they are no longer available over here. Silly call I reckon, now just SONY and Samsung for the LCD's and Panasonic for the plasma.

Oh and recent tech ref - 3D screens from £1.6k to £2.3 (Panansonic 50"). Again Richer Sounds....

What is with this 3D malarkey!?! Do I need to wear glasses on to of my glasses????

I have a pioneer as well a panasonic. On the old forum I posted the pics of my pioneer disassembled for the power pack repair. The only weak bit of the pioneer.

Thanks again guys for all your input  not purchased yet as have come across quite a few reviews complaining of 'coning' what ever that is :scratchhead: so will wait until I can get down to the Sony shop to se a 46" in the flesh. You'd think it would be easy to buy a TV these days

I also bought a Pano cinema and Blue Ray system so it all matched. I'm not audio phile, so my expectations may be lower, but it certainly seems to do a pretty good job. I think the cinema gear was about £300, so at the lower end of the range.

Sad thing is, I've only watched one Blue Ray movie, although I do watch a lot of HD, and that is brilliant ;)

Any Thoughts on Current TV's LCD/Plasma?

Post by Garry247 » Tue Sep 07, 2010 12:09 pm

Take a look at the new Sony 3d. Sony use active glasses so although these cost a little more per pair the picture is stunning. You also get Internet tv. I read that Sony are going to be bringing android to their tv's very soon so expect to see an app store for your tv.

I have a 42" Panosonic hooked up to an XBOX 360 and an XBOX media centre running on an Acer Aspire PC. Pulls the content from my NAS which is in the Attic.

Sounds like that Sony is a nice spec though :)

Expensive HDMI cables are my pet hate... an industry set on ripping you off! Sure, you could have a problem with a 99p cable, but in general you shouldn't spend more than a few quid on them, as if they work then there is no difference in picture quality at all (won't go into the details of why here, that's just too boring!)

Thanks again for the input guys, have made my mind up and am going for the Sony 46" stated earlier in the thread, seems great value for under £1k it doesn't have 3D which is no issue as sitting infront of the TV with big glasses is no my idea of fun.

I have a PS3 which is fab + with its Bluray capability make for a nice neat all in one set up. Totally agree with your thoughts on HDMI cables

Will be happy to share thoughts as and when the new toy is delivered.
