bmwscan error codes - can anyone help.

Post by X5Driver » Tue Mar 20, 2012 7:46 pm

Hi All

Just run my first scan and have spent a fair while looking on the forum and internet for a way to translate the codes into some meaningful information.

I have copied the results below and have cleared them all. The main one I am trying to solve is relating to the active susp inac message. which I think is reservoir pressure remains constant.

I think this implies the air suspension when it calls for a pressure chnange cant get it. I think the pump is fine as when the error is not there I can raise and lower the car fine and it only comes on after a few days driving and the car is always level, maybe its sensor or something on the accumulator faulty.... Any ideas gratefully received.

What scanner is that???

If that's your first scan they could be old old faults that don't exist anymore. I would clear them then recheck in a week or 2.

Just updated my previous reply. Can you post screen shots? Sounds more like inpa software than BMW scanner 1.4.0

I have seen the screen shots of 1.4.0 and its the same it has selection panel on right with a few bits and page 1, page 2, page 3 etc this is the log file that is saved to the 1.4.0 directory.

I had the code for suspension cleared twie so that is going to come back in the next few days and the srs shadow memory one wont clear its the traffic light thing in 1.4.0 for previous that wont clear if you get that bit of jibberish, was much clearer in my head promise!

The Tel one looks like you may have the Bluetooth with Telematics with BMW Assist. My Dec 2004 built E53 version did not have that option as it had bot been developed at that time, but by July 2005 our E46 did have Telematics which has a built in SIM in the car. Unless you're paying a subscription for Assist, that might explain the Access Denied error. We get a warning screen on the Nav at start-up to allow emergency calls. We haven't paid the Assust for years.

SRS could be the Safety Restraint System?
LCM sounds like the Light Control Module and Auto-levelling of the headlights?

EHC is Electronic Height Calibration. i'm sure of the HC, not sure of the E but i think it's a safe bet that it stands for Electronic

IKE is Instrument Cluster Electronics.. maybe they spelt Cluster with a K :)

if your car is acting and behaving normally. i wouldn't worry too much about the scanner fault codes. i would bet most owners would have a fair few dodgy faults showing on a scan that dont really amount to much.
mine consistently shows loads of faults that dont actually amount to anything tangible!! :|

I'm not too worried about them apart from the suspension one as this fault keeps coming back as active suspension inactive. Just wondered if anyone had any info on the specific errors

Could just be a dud sensor if the car isn't sagging on one side overnight. Might be worth getting it into an Indy for a look. BMW scanner is pretty good but on something's are not too specific unfortunately as you've found. It was similar for me when mine was showing Aux heater, turned out to be a fuse.

Dirtymonkey, you seem to be my font of all knowledge at the mo, do appreciate your time on all these posts.

I have had an indy scan it with his setup which was a slightly different result but much the same his said that when the accumulator was requesting a pressure change it was remaining constant. I have just put the light out again and when I push the height adjustment button up or down it raises and lowers fine and doesnt seem too slow so pump must be ok. The x never drops over 3 or 4 days so cant be a leak and surely if manual ride adjustment works it cant be the height sensors so maybe its the pressure sensor in the acumulator or something what do you think

Possibly, I'd want it checking over with a multimeter to pinpoint any issues with the sensors, could be a dodgy connection somewhere or a knackered wire which may trip the light hitting bumps etc
