Hi all,
unfortunately I don't have much time to browse the forum, probably what I'm asking is already covered but...
I have a cracking offer for a 2.0d 2006 with 60k miles. My questions:
What to take notice/special attention when checking out the car (known faults)?
The mileage seems very low, is it possible on the X3s to re-program the mileage counter? If I take it to an authorized BMW service center, should they be able to tell me the exact real mileage?
Thank in advance
Dejan

60k on a 2006 is not bad at all, less than 10k a year. My 6.5 year old X5 went with 54k on it and my 18 month old X6 has less than 7,000 miles on it. There are lots of low mileage cars about, and with fuel prices rising that is only likely to increase. I used to do 14k a year, but not any more. I get things delivered as it's cheaper and easier.
It is possible to reprogram these cars to cover changes to certain module failures, but that should bring a tell-tale indication pixel on within the binnacle if not done properly. Certainly taking the car into BMW will allow the mileage to be read off the key. An HPI check should also show anything unusual.
BMW do offer a premium rate phone contact number which you can call to get history on any of their cars. Details are on their website.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

As above I would say milage is about right not too low if it was like 20k but 60 on 6yr old car is probly average, have no idea but one thing to look out for is the ved bands are all over in 2006 on the e53, don't think it will affect the 2.0d but worth a look, other than that get all the hishory then as above use the bmw line to confirm it, I wouldn't just take the book as evidence as these can easily be forged and bought on ebay!
