Post by graemeX5 » Tue Mar 13, 2012 8:04 pm

Does anyone know if you can use a pressure washer when ther is a hose pipe ban in place as it's not a hose pipe?

How do you connect the pressure washer? Hose pipe I guess.

Yes a small bit of pipe
However with a pressure washer it's not running all the time like a hose pipe which can be left to run unattended

Or you may have a pressure washer that can operate via a suction feed, or from a wafer butt (you MUST use an in line filter) rather than a hose.

My Karscher model (K6.800X Series) has the ability to 'lift' water 0.5m. Needs an input flow rate to match the spec - 11litres/min in my case. Have a look at your spec sheets and see what flow rate you need to be able to supply water to the machine at.

I'm going to buy another 200 litre water butt and fit it with Hozelock type fittings so that I can either have a tap (for watering cans) or hose feed for the pressure washer. Of course, we'll need some rain to fill it with, or I suppose I could hose fill it prior to the an coming into force and hope it rains enough after that...... ;)

See my thread on how I solved the problem :)

Pressure washer can be used to scrub the floor, clean your drive, wash your house windows - everything EXCEPT for wash your car :)

According to water co website jet washers no but you can fill a water butt so I'm with you and I'm going to get a butt and connect it to the pressure washer. Then per website fill the but up with water afterwards as long as pipe not
more than half a metre.

Can I use a hosepipe to fill a watering can or water butt to water my garden? It is not permitted to use a hosepipe to fill a watering can/water butt with mains water, other than with a hose less than half a meter long. We would however encourage all of our customers to make use of water butts to collect rainwater, which can then be used to water the garden with a watering can or a pump and hosepipe.

Where is this 50 cm pipe come in? So to fill up the water but, I have to make a construction of about 10 meters of drainpipe into the water butt, and use a 50 cm mains hose to run the water via the pipe into the butt :)

if ur planning to run mains water in to the butt basically ur saying to hell with the ban i'm gonna use mains water to wash my car anyways.. not very ethical.

i do have a water butt and it must be currently full as well, however, i think its best used for the garden than the car tbo.. as much as i love cars!

If you're on a water meter then it does not apply as far as I'm aware.

Otherwise no.

Interesting enough they are not keen enough to fix a water mains leak in the road which has been running for the last 13 years into my ditch.

I am on a meter, so I am funding the water companies so I don't think they want me to use less (only those not on meters who are usually the biggest consumers).
