Hose pipe bans

Post by pvr » Mon Mar 12, 2012 5:43 pm

As they have now introduced this rediculous ban, I am working on a way around this.

So ... I am thinking of buying a container of say 500 litres, fill that up with a hose, then use a pump like this: http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=163126
to connect my hose pipe to so I can continue to wash the car as normal.

Can anyone see any downsides?

We're also looking at adding more capacity to the two water butts we already have (2x 210l) with a larger tank (500-800 litres) are available locally with an interceptor connected into the roof downpipes.

In theory I can then connect that to the pressure washer directly as it had a filtered syphon connection - or if I can get the right parts then I could put a 'Hozelock' type connector on the output point and connect it to the hose again. No doubt a neighbour would report 'illicit hosepipe use' but I can gleefully demo my storage and connection system.. :D

Of course we still need to have enough rain to actually fill the thing!! :(

I have bought the pump now, just looking for the storage container now.

Remember it is legal to use a hose to fill the container, so I will connect a hose to the container, and have the Karcher drain the container at the same time.

I have to do something though as last time we had helicopters spying at us (we are not visible from any public road). Only costs £10k an hour to look at the neighbourhood though ... :x

If you're on a meter your "rates" will drop as will the pro rata charge fpr taking that water away

How much was that?

I have a pump for the hot tub so I could probably use that on the car.

Will be nice and warm at 37 degrees !

Special price - half price at tooled up: http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=163126

For £50, a bargain to be able to (legally) wash your car using a hose.

Can you connect these pumps to pressure washers (down a length of hose, say 30m long) or is the output flow rate too high for the input side of the PW?

I've got 220l by the drive so that can feed directly, but two more 220l tanks in the back about 30m or may be a bit more away. It may of course be easier to pump from tank to tank then output to PW, but I thought 'what about direct'?

Anything in the book pvr?

Incidentally Southern Water - or whoever looks after East & West Sussex now - have just closed a loophole that allowed the overv65's to use hoses as watering cans had been deemed too heavy for them. There was apparently an outcry when it was spotted and the water company closed that gap pronto. One of tother half's relatives was most put out.
