3.0D or 4.0D ??
Re: 3.0D or 4.0D ??
My M Sport X5 has the active suspension or whatever it is called. Lovely ride, really smooth, then push the sport button on the centre console and all the suspension tightens up for when you want it that way. Have to say I would not want it in sport all the time for normal use.
Comfort Access also great, no need to worry about anyone else being able to open the car as you need the key quite close by.
This I would like to experience but I find it a shame that BMW can't make a car ride or handle right now without having to buy an expensive option
Comfort access I originally specced on mine then deleted it at the last minute as it was c£800. However I have had loads of demos with this option now and therefore my next cars will defo have it

Re: 3.0D or 4.0D ??
I bought my X5 at 2 years old so the first owner specced and paid for the active suspension, think it was £2500.
It wasn't an option i had seen on any other used X5 and would never have thought about it but this car had all the other options I wanted. Now that I have the active suspension its great and if M Sports drive the same as mine with Sport button pressed then it would be rather harsh.

Re: 3.0D or 4.0D ??
I think now (on LCI models) they only offer Active Suspension for 5.0i or M. From what BMW says it is different from usual sport suspension you've got on SE or M-Sport. Active suspension (Adaptive drive it's called now if I am correct) Adaptive Drive counteracts the forces that cause body roll.
I see X5 as a sports car which is big enough to move your family, that's why I opted for sport suspension. Imho if you want soft ride - go for Q7 or RRS
4.0 is great if you can afford it, if not get 3.0 and remap when warranty expires

Re: 3.0D or 4.0D ??
I went for the 40D M Sport and deselected the sports suspension. It isn't soft at all and is still very taut for cornering, but with the edge taken off it for a more comfortable drive. The thing that made the difference for me was taking an X5 with 20in wheels and sports suspension on a test drive. Initially I thought it was fine, and then went over a pot hole and then a speed bump which made up my mind very quickly! If I were 10 years younger with no family I may have considered otherwise, but then again with those credentials I went for something impractical with 2 seats!
Re the comfort access, I was warned off it (rightly or wrongly) as I live in town and the car is at times parked immediately outside. Apparently if you are standing near the window with key in pocket the doors may unlock.

Re: 3.0D or 4.0D ??
I have heard the same about comfort access although to start the car doesn't the key have to be located in the car?

It probably does. But I don't want our friendly neighbourhood thieves and vandals that journey into the area doing their worst with the interior on finding the car open!

My keys are always miles away from the car anyway at home
At the office is more of a problem as the car is parked right under my office window and I have come out before to find all of the windows down and roof open in the pouring rain!!!

Which was the main reason I didn't add it either. I think you have to be quite close to the car for it to work, but.......
Not that we keep the cars anywhere near the cars either, and the auto-relock function is set too.

Re: 3.0D or 4.0D ??
I have comfort access in both my cars and you need to be very close for it to work, standing at a window with the car outside would not be close enough for someone to open the doors.
Re: 3.0D or 4.0D ??
CA - the key needs to be at least within a 1mtr bubble of car though have been able to open my doors when I placed key about 1.5 mtr away. Alsoo key needs to be inside car to start, if u start car and take key outside a warning lamp & gong goes off, car will still run, but if you swirtch of u cannot restart. So be careful if wife drops u off at pub and you keep the key in your pocket, she goes to shops and cant get car to restart, not happend to me, but be aware!
Also soft close doors are great, nice quiet, no slamming and gives a nice premium feel.
