Try 20" without Sports Suspension ... it's a compliant ride and looks the part!

If there was one close by at a dealers I might try, but with the sports deleted and still with 20" is quite rare, and its unlikely a dealer would spec a car this way for a demo.

My local dealer told me they spec cars with 20" as glasses/cap value the cars 1k more (resale) so 1k cost of adding is never lost.

There's also the niggle of the 20" tendancy to track (rutting), did feel this with e53, & on the 40D but not so much with 19" on 30D.

Agree the 20" do look better (especially when building on BMW site - think they digitally enhance the 20" to look bigger  ) But in real life the 19" are still nice on the car.

I had this problem when speccing my car - I wanted to demo a car without sports suspension (for use as our family car rather than my toy!) but obviously none were available. I was also undecided about 20s which look better vs 19s for a less hardcore ride. In the end I opted for the 19s and deleted the sports suspension. It was definitely the right choice for us - it's more comfortable but still great when pressing on although my wife still finds it a slightly on the firm side (but still loves it)!

If I were having another (just sold 30d msport) I would go for the 40d and I would 100% tick the sports suspension delete. I found the ride on 20s to be just too harsh, it was fine when I first got it but as the tyres wear the ride becomes irritating. Winters were good as we would put 19" snow tyres on that were non run flats and this improved the ride. If you have children spec the blinds as they are fantastic.

3.0D or 4.0D ??

Post by jason@bwchiptune » Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:44 pm
Waiting on a couple dealers getting back to me on new e70. Decided that M Sport best model for me (us when I talk to the wife ;) ).

Not sure if single or twin turbo version though.

Did the math on increased bhp taking into account for the extra e70 weight (bhp to weight ratio) (current e70's verses 218bhp e53)
245bhp 3.0D works out at an 8% improvement.
306 bhp 4.0D works out at a 35% improvement over my e53

Torque was increased 500N(e53) to 540(3.0D) & 600(4.0D)

Now I never felt my e53 was a slouch and easily propeled me to 100mph with ease then oomph did tail of.

So is e70 3.0D 245bhp adequate ? or is having the 4.0D 306bhp gonna make me cream with pleasure every time I drive it ?

At a 2.5k increase I can't help but think of the extra toys I could add, which also adds to the enJOYment of the car.
ummmmmm.......

What do others think, chip in please. (Also is BMW buisness radio upgrade worth it?, personally I couldn't tell an C sharp from F Flat).
After a remap the 3.0 d 245 bhp can be brought upto 305bhp
And the 4.0d 306 bhp to 365bhp with more mpg gains

Sounds good.

Not sure about soft close doors though-can't you just push a bit harder!? :poke:

I'd be looking at comfort access instead !

The wife ruled out comfort access. She doesn't like it. She prefers to lock/unlock the car - and at that price I can see her point :) It's also pretty expensive for what it is...

I must admit though that soft close doors was my extravagance!

Funnily enough, the deal phoned me this morning to say that a chassis number will be allocated imminently and therefore spec can't change. I asked him about sports suspension and his view was that they never spec a demo m-sport without it and it's very rare people order one and delete the sports suspension. We are locked in now anyway... At least it'll be 3 years of being able to go round corners very fast - unlike the Lexus RX350 we currently have!

I also quizzed him on the hifi upgrade as that's one box I didn't tick. His view was that unless you're a real audiophile then the standard sound system is good enough. I listen to the radio and will plug the ipod in now and then but that's it so I'm hoping I've made the right choice.

Sounds good enough to me as well. I hardly use the radio to volume levels where the difference would actually mean anything.

Also, when driving, I like to concentrate so normally switch off the radio unless I am on the motorway where the pathetic 70 limit means you can mentally switch off and might as well do a radio quiz.

I regret that did not order soft close doors... As for the sport suspension on 20inch - yes ride is is bit hard but you only notice this on a bad road. This is fully compensated by handling on a motorway and the looks, especially from the rear!

Don't understand the need for soft close doors at all

Also I find that on the motorway it is when you notice the ride is so bad!

My M Sport X5 has the active suspension or whatever it is called. Lovely ride, really smooth, then push the sport button on the centre console and all the suspension tightens up for when you want it that way. Have to say I would not want it in sport all the time for normal use.

Comfort Access also great, no need to worry about anyone else being able to open the car as you need the key quite close by.
