X5 2002 4.6is sat Nav and sound problem

Post by Moh153 » Sat Feb 25, 2012 7:01 pm

brought an x5 4.6 2002

As the title I'm having difficulties finding sat Nav option on the screen

I've disconnected the battery for a few mins connected back up and still the same

Image

The screen is also blue but I'm sure it doesn't be blue

Another problem is it has DSP and only one speaker works and some tweeters and the standard subwoofer crackles

Any advice please

Thanks in advance

Look in the boot on the left-hand side and pull the cover off. What's in there?

Usually a 6 disc changer and the MK3 satnav unit - reckon yours is missing/disconnected.

Search RCM/Radio Control Module/BM24/BM54 for answers to the speakers poor functionality.

Disconnect it, see if you get any changes. Then re-connect.

May work - no satnav is usually the unit on the blink... Also ckeck associated fuses in the front AND back.

Where are you based? Maybe someone with a fault code reader or navcoder can do a scan for you to see if there's any issues

It would be good to get a scanner on there to check if the problem is further down. The screen going blue is because the car thinks there's no SatNav unit attached.

So, yes - could be a SatNav gone wrong or again fuses, double, triple check. One's in the back are to the right-hand side storage area (where your sub is, I think - above). Not sure if any are to do with the SatNav but check.

If possible, best way would be to try swapping the unit out with a known working one.

Near you is a member called Raj. He may get his scanner shortly and even have a MK4 unit for sale (best to get the MK4 over the MK3 if finances permit), drop him PM.

Mk3 is a CD based system. Mk4 uses a DVD so holds more information.

Being DVD based means more info and quicker operation speed (if you take the wrong turning, it's quicker to re-work a new route).

Plus there are other 'unofficial' extras we don't talk about on a public forum.

Get a like for like unit to check if your one is duff.

BM24 or BM54 are the Radio Control Module. 24 for the older cars and 54 for the face-lift cars for sure (think cut-off to newer BM54 was 2002). It is for all 2000 to 2006 E53 type X5's. Notorious failure issue...

You will get TMC data on the Mk4. TMC very handy for re-routing around problems - with some 'interesting' routes sometimes chosen!! Not sure if this was included in the Mk3 - Sanj might know. Mk3 CDs were only capable of holding a single country like UK, whereas the DVD gives you the most of Europe to explore on a single disc.....should you want to that is. :)

MK4 also supports 3d-type view with software version 28 onwards, which is nice.
