Programming E70

Post by pvr » Sun Feb 12, 2012 8:47 pm

Was reading on xoutpost about programming the E70, including the creation of the HUD part. Now that really interests me if it can just be switched on by coding.

Has anyone done any coding to the E70? I suppose it might apply to the E71 as well.

nice to know its built and on its way.

as for M Hud coding, the rev counter is calibrated for petrol car so revs shown on Hud will not be accurate for diesel, plus you loose the sat nav direction on Hud which imo are better. Though u can try it and see if u likes it, and reverse it if u dont.

No but hear there's an Italian Captain on board. We shouldn't need the torpedos :D

I did not order HUD, so wanted to see if it could be enabled with this cable / software they are discussing there.

Looks interesting. There's a few functions I can see being very useful to have:
Power close tailgate from inside front button and key fob.
DVD in Motion

Not sure about MHUD as I think it's better with the Satnav data - and it won't work without a HUD of course as that's a key part.

I was not too sure about the last part as perhaps they build it in standard and not activate it as they do with the aux heater on the E53.

Might not be lucky of course as I did not order it with it on my car, but will see. The folding mirror one sounds like a nice one to do as well though.

I did not order the remote boot as I was concerned that someone might press the button whilst in the garage and getting the lid to hit the ceiling ...

The HUD is a totally different dashboard upper panel and uses a special windscreen where the two glass sheets in laminated construction are at different angles (ie not in a parallel plane to each other - sometimes it helps to be a photographer) to avoid dual image reflection issues.

The remote boot lid system has a height limiter setting in the iDrive so that 'vertically challenged' folks can reach the 'close' button, and so you can stop any 'ceiling' accidents.

Yes I have successfully coded my e70. It's pretty simple and there I are good instructions on bmwcoding.com

Takes a while to understand how to use the coding software ncsexpert.

What you would need to do is physically add the HUD unit, a big job, then the coding part is simple, you just need to add the HUD to the VO (vehicle order), and then make a few other changes to other internal modules.

I have considered it but it will take ages and expensive!
