It's above the glove box, which you need to remove, or at least lower the lid thereof by disconnecting the stop bar. If I remember rightly, once lowered it gives enough room to lower the fuse panel once the catches are released.

TIS for LHD cars here, just mirror image everything..

Sorted now - You have to take the whole glovebox out and release the 4 screws on the fuse box and remove it to get to the relay it is on the back of the fuse box.

Glad you got it sorted. I had to take the glove-box out myself to do some work on it after the dealer misfitted the ipod kit when they ignored the BMW TIS. I remember it as being a bit of an awkward job.

Ours had the relay changed a year ago - but I didn't do the job. It's another common fault too.

Update now I have the new relay fitted and have driven the car
The car feels totally different
Starting first time every time
Slight hunting on tickover - gone
Lurching when slowing down - gone
I feel like I am imagining it but the car has been totally transformed how can a relay make such a difference

When ours went SWMBO had to be trailered back from West Wales to East Anglia - she wasn't pleased as she was stuck with a basic Corsa. Took the Indy two days to find the fault and cost £200 to fit a £10 relay!! Warranty Direct only paid about a third of it - another reason we dropped them as cover supplier.

I have been having trouble with the car not starting for a couple of months now and have read a lot about the reasons on here.
The car was diagnosed to be the pre-fuel pump but I had a suspicion it might be the relay.
When the car would not start you could not hear the pump whirring but after turning the ignition on and off sometimes for up to about 5 minutes the pump would whirr and the car would then start.
I know sometimes you can give a sticky relay a tap and found that by banging the glove box, where the relay is,it would make the pump run and have been doing that for a couple of day till I got round to fitting a new relay.
It is probably the best £10 I have ever spent
Well happy :D
