I saw the list, but was just wondering if it was a "fashion" list rather than minimum spec. I understand that the 40d has bigger brakes than the 30d as well so I think I can forget about that.

Must investigate the E70 wheels / tyres than for a decent price as once having had winter wheels, you don't want to be without. Just need to sell the E53 ones to get some money to put torwards the E70 set.

RealOEM only list 18" for Winter Tyres or for the emergency steel spare (if you buy the kit of course).

I bought the 177 style 18" wheels / tyre combo for mine (as per further back up this thread). They worked very well in very heavy snow in the Alps this winter. I did get stuck once but put that down to lack of differential lock in the X5, plus probably my lack of experience / snow technique. It could be worth looking on eBay and eBay.de (winter tyres are a legal requirement in Germany so there's a lot more here). Could get a good deal at the end of winter as someone looks to offload theirs combined with limited demand? FYI I paid around £1100 for mine posted from Germany (mint wheels with c7mm tread) vs the£2000 BMW new price.

I'd second that. Found my 99 style 18 wheels on ebay.de.
Easy to send them a message by cut/pasting from google translate and I was surprised that the cost of mailing them was not too steep.

pvr,

Not sure if the cars roll off transporter with upgrade alloys or if same fiited at dealer who then dispose of smaller rims ?

I know some manufacturers do this & some motor dealer then allegedly left with non wanted smaller rims simply move on same by back door or otherwise.

Whilst I have bought new twice before and have 2 BMW's I have never bought a new BMW so cant advise of speak with any authority on this.

Just thinking of cheapest creative way to get 2 sets of rims

In my case, the winter set were obtained courtesy of an X6 new owner wanting different wheels from those on the options list. Owner had to buy a complete new set. Dealer did the change and offered me the no longer required but brand new 19" Style 168's with Conti summer tyres for £500. I bought.. :)

Conti Tyres went on the E53, and Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow on the 168s and are now on the X6 for Winter.

When dropping the E53 off on saturday, will ask the question on what they can do. Although having signed the deal, the eagerness to please may be diminished ...

To add...........Ideal solution would have been spec with optional 20's for £1125 and keep smaller rims foc for winter rubber then sell standard non winter smaller rubber........ but not sure how they do the maths or choices available/workable.

I thought from what others have posted that customers could change order/spec after signed albeit it changes delivery date.

My thinking is that in Summer the Abarth will be in use more than the E70 on bigger wheels if the boss having scuff concerns are an issue ;)

The £1125 is the cost supplement for the 20s over the 19s rather than getting both. I'm guessing but the cost of wheels incl tyres is probably around £4k for the 20s and around £3k for the 19s.

You may be able to play around with which wheels the car comes with post lockdown on the spec, as obviously the wheels are easily changed rather than being part of the car's structure. Definitely worth asking if you're interested.

Good estimate. Style 336 20" with Dunlop Sportmaxx tyres (same rubber as my E71) from Alloywheels Direct delivered at £3663. No idea what the OEM mark-up likely to be, but could be 15%?

You do definitely get new car buyers who trade up to 20s and put unwanted smaller wheels on eBay. I saw a brand new set of the standard 19" m sport wheels up for £600. If I'd had the storage space I'd have bought them for the spare tyres (one tyre cost me £320 courtesy of a nail) and considered the wheels for use with winter wheels. You have to move fast though ...
