Webasto heater not working
Re: Webasto heater not working

I don't see where the glow plug is Does anyone here know, has anyone here replaced one ?
I don't know if the fuell pump is working, there is only one small pipe that leads into the chassis and has no little pump as shown in the PDF's.
Has anyone here actually worked on one of these units ? I am definitely feeling around in the dark and could do with some help
The glow plug slots into a socket at the top end of the burner assembley and is held in place by a metal key. To access the burner assembly, disconnect the air and fuel lines then remove the four screws that secure the fan motor housing then slide the housing off over the fuel line spigot - you can now 'wiggle' out the burner assembly c/w glow plug.
The webasto fuel pump is located under the car adjacent to the main fuel pump and fuel filter - in the void in front of the fuel tank - need to remove the rear-most underbody plastic shield to access the void.
That's excellent news, I just disconnected the fuel pipe and tried running the unit and got no diesel, so tomorrow I will remove the cover underneath and check the pump first.
Thanks again great advice

Re: Webasto heater not working
Guys, my webasto runs for a few minutes, blows cold air through the exhaust (doesn't get hot), and then shuts down. once it shuts down it registers a 'glow plug fault' when i check with the scanner.
in this state webasto wouldn't run again. if i clear the fault with the scanner it will try to run, blow cold air through the exhaust again and then shutdown.
this obvious point at the glow plug as the fault! reading through this thread i wonder though whether it could even be the webasto fuel pump?
any way of figuring out before trying to extract the glow plug, as the glow plug is inside the webasto...
like does the fuel pump make any noise when running, if i remove the fuel line from the webasto should fuel be gushing out?
thx

Webasto heater not working
I believe the webasto will need resetting to clear its fault code. You remove whatever fuse number while the car is running for 10 secs or something. It's in one of the PDFs I posted im sure.

yes the http://www.techwebasto.com/heater_main/907512.pdf talks about a rather elaborate process to reset a locked state.
mine is not in a locked out state cos it starts if i clear the glow-plug error with the scanner. what i want to find out is whether it really is a glow plug error or fuel system error. cos i think bmw just stores a generic error message if the webasto does not ignite or if the flame dies.
any suggestions on how to diagnose the root cause pls?

Re: Webasto heater not working
Hi all,
My X heater is running well apart from the circulation pump! The unit is heat up the water in the surrounding pipes but no where else! I figured out, the circulation pump is don`t do his job! Is it possible for blockage or stuck...cos when i put on standard 12v, than is still nothing happened! I measured the motor and is pick up 0.2Amp...is it normal or is much more power full? Btw the wire is very thin to the pump so can`t be a soo strong pump!
Please help with any advise!
THX

Re: Webasto heater not working
Mine is like Jayanda. Runs in a purge mode everytime there is an electrical activity eg opening the door, then shuts down no heat (this also happens with no keys in ignition. I cant find any fuse that interrupts the circuit to try and reset it. Any help please
Re: Webasto heater not working
Is start up normal when the ignition key in position 1 and you switch on the aux heating at the onboard computer? The air purge progress is normal when is cold outside and push the unlock button on the key fob! You don`t need to reset this...is running preprogram or manual mode! Some time the engine turn it on to help warm up the engine while is running!
Re: Webasto heater not working
Can any lucky member with a working Webasto advise whether (in cold weather) it is normal for the combustion fan to start and run ~ 1 minute (ignition off) upon opening any of the vehicle doors ?

Hmmmm this sounds familiar and interested too
I've been reading these Webasto posts thinking nahhh not fussed....not for me....what is it
Well maybe it is for me. Since I've had it me and the mrs have said "it's making those funny growling/reving noises again from near the passenger footwell" ....we just agreed...It's a BMW it does clever weird things
Having cleaned it within an inch of its life today those funny growling/reving noises were there again....EVEN After I'd closed and locked the door
Normally I just get in put the key in the ignition and sometimes get those funny growling/reving noises
growling/reving....goes quiet.....for a while....growling/reving again...and today after being in the car...locking it growling/reving again
Is this the Webasto doing something.....or failing to do something as its more a stop start sort of sequence thing as if it itemitently being powered up?

This is basically what mine was doing when it was faulty. If you do a search my post will be in there when I started having problems ( about November 2010 ? ). Can't tell you what was wrong as the unit was replaced under my warranty but if your's is making these noises when locking or unlocking the doors then something isn't right. Once fixed it only starts up once the engine is started ( or via my maplin remote mod )
Hope this helps.
Phil.
