Has anybody changed the aircon belt? Now Changed

Post by phill » Mon Jan 30, 2012 3:05 pm

I have noticed at the weekend that the aircon pump belt is missing, probably snapped off sometime. The aircon pump can spin freely so it has not seized to cause the belt to come off. So has anybody changed the belts as I'm going to change both the aircon and the alternator belt at the same time, is there anything to watch out for or is there a best way to do this job, special tools?

May have a go at weekend I have made a tool to hold the pump whilst undoing the fan, if it works I will post a how to with the measurements for the tool, but bear with me as it is supposed to be cold at weekend and that's a big no no for working on cars

Changed both belts at the weekend, took about 2 hours without rushing. I followed the links below, the only difference was I removed the splash guard under the car as this makes getting to the aircon belt easier. I also removed the plastic engine cover and the air intake from the engine to the air filter box and the air intake that directs the air from the front grills to the air filter box, this gives room to remove the fan once disconnected.
