M Sport wheel arch protection

Post by pvr » Sun Jan 29, 2012 7:34 pm

Apparently, cars being build as of now will be delivered with rear arch protection from the famous stone chips. This is factory fit, so don't know if it will be available as a retro product for existing cars.

Welcome aboard

It may very well be that when a salesman says "as of now", he might have meant "as of 2012 build, so from October onwards ...

Do you have a picture of what this protection film looks like?

No pics as yet, weather pretty awful since I got car and it is filthy. It is on 18" winter wheels at the moment and will look better when I get the 20s on, if I can lift them, I thought the M3 wheels were heavy !!

Check the pics of my space grey on other thread, I did not take close ups of film, but they are pretty invisible ;) and well fitted. You only really see the edges and after a couple weeks yoru eye just ignores them. Def glad they are fitted as standard.

Probably the same as the bumper scratch protection film that BMW make available for the rear of the X6. Well worth it..

I ended up shelling out a small fortune to get mine protected with Armourfend. It's done a good job and you just don't notice the film. But I'd have preferred BMW to pick up the tab. However I wanted the film on day 1 rather than after chipping and arguments with BMW to respray and put film on. I'm glad it's now fitted as standard.

You have to wonder how they managed to miss something like this as part of the vehicle testing programme? Perhaps it only showed on the disguise film the mules run about covered in.
