New X5 Owner!

Post by itshimitis » Thu Jan 26, 2012 3:51 pm

We used to have an Audi Q7 which we traded in yesterday for a brand new X5 40D with the Dynamic pack and media pack plus third row with 20 inch Y's and the top view camera. So far so good, although the ride (with the added sports suspension is much firmer than on our Q7 S line which had adaptive air suspension. Got a reasonable deal from the dealer although we bought one of their stock cars as it was specc'd how we wanted it, and in a great colour too (platinum grey). Here are a few pics taken between rain showers

Once you have owned the X a bit longer I would be interested in comparison to the Q7. In the meantime, what's your initial feel for power, refinement, gearbox, interior finish, space?!?! (vs. the Q7)

Oh, and WELCOME!

The wife was originally after a black one, but I felt that this colour was more individual, plus we'd get the car straight away without waiting. We briefly toyed with the improving Kia and Hyundai, but my wife saw the X5 and said that's the one. Mind you my brother in law has a 2005 model that he has lots of electrical problems with: fuel gauge constantly stuck on half - he's run out of fuel several times and the odometer is counting 15% extra miles and lots of fault lights on the 4 x 4 system. Fingers crossed no problems for us, as this meant I only looked at BMW right at the end...

More power: the Q7 was 245bhp big difference there. More comfortable in the Q7 but will judge that from a longer drive. There is a surprising amount of space in the third row seats. One thing we did compromise on was the audio. We have the professional speakers which aren't as good as the Bose surround sound we had in the Audi, but that wasn't a deal breaker. We managed to get £5.5k off the dealer's price. We had been looking at replacing with another Q7 but the dealer was unreliable and he was trying to sell me a car when we had the Q7 serviced a couple of weeks ago and I specced up the same Audi on Audi's website to S line plus with every extra imaginable including panoramic sunroof and was able to beat the dealer's price for an SE specced up to look a little like S line by nearly 2K. So decided not to trust the Audi dealer.

Welcome to the forum!

Lovely colour, like the alloys too! Know this is a new colour for the LCI models so well done!

Some shots side on and the interior when it stops raining!

Q7 won't be as good in this round corners I suspect but then you have to compromise with the harder suspension. Either way, would be my choice!

Well done!

That is a good colour and so much better than the boring blacks

My other favourite of the LCI model is the DSB

Had a Q7 on loan for 6 weeks alongside the X5 and overall preferred the X5 (luckily!) but the Q7 was better at somethings eg comfort and nicer sounding engine.

As requested more pics. WE took the car for a 50 mile round trip down to the Gower peninsula so she got her first dirt! She is definitely a firmer ride than the Q7, but has some real urgency.

My brother in law's often failing X5 is the one behind - if it's electrical and essential for knowing how far you've gone or how much fuel you have left, it doesn't work!

Don't think so. It's the 40D SE with sports suspension, dynamic and media packs. I believe it's the Msport that has the oval exhausts. They're fine by us in any case
