Not loud as is a quality car but have been in others with greater sound proofing and its much better obviously.
These things just sit on the engine not the whole compartment and take out the clatter and such yet you can still hear weird noises if you get them.
Under take off i find a little more noise than i would like so think im going to buy and try, i dont think i can lose.

i actually like the v6 acoustics! bmw spends so much time and money to make sure their cars sound right! this is my first bmw diesel and i'm actually amazed cos i've had diesels before and they all sounded horrible, this v6 is like music in comparison.

Sound Proofing the Engine
The 3.0d is a straight 6 not a v6
Re: Sound Proofing the Engine
I've never thought the 3.0d engine to be noisy. Intact I think its the most un-diesel like engine I've heard. The only noise issue I have is tyre noise on certain tarmacs. I often think a where bearing has gone until I hit a different road surface.

Yes your right its such a good engine for sure but im not saying its noisy as such but after going in a Disco and Range Rover you can notice the differance.
In summary its quiet now but im going to make even quieter.

Re: Sound Proofing the Engine
I always thought that the engine could never be heard in the Disco/RR because of transfer box whine, diff rumble, tyre roar, various squeaks, rattles and clatters........
I used to run a fleet of them, and quiet was not a word I would have used for describing any of them. We had TD4 and TD5 versions, plus a V8.
Most of the noise in my old E53 was the tyres, as it is on the X6 until you give it some 'engine encouragement'. The engine is very quiet compared to others I have driven. Check you haven't got a grommet or cover missing somewhere that's spoiling your tranquility.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Sound Proofing the Engine
Put a V8 engine in there not an engine cover lol.

He he so true, try the TDV8 what a weapon.
I am just going for more subtle, the blanket is 750 x 500 which is perfect as just measured the motor, it leaves all air gaps etc around same.
Oh well here goes £75.00 !

So you're going to add a sheet of lead to an already heavy vehicle
I guess you wont be using the church roof alternative method damping material either

Well just a little one, its not heavy as mainly acoustic materials.
Dont get the second part.
