E70 Price Check, what's high mileage impact?

Post by spr0cket » Sun Dec 11, 2011 7:54 pm

Hi folks, I,m trying to locate an E70 that ticks all the right boxes.
I have found one which covers. All I have been seeking (08 plate, m sport, twin turbo, nearly all options available) however the one fly for me is mileage ... It has 49k on the clock.
It has full bmwsh so not that condition or lack of mtc is my concern rather just that inbuilt desire for a low mile example..
I do typically 10k a yr

So if this were to be the option of pursuit what sort of price dis.count would you expect against a more usual 25 to 35k mile example?

The vehicle sits at £30k though like I say is loaded but via an Indy dealer. Does it sound way over priced? Sorry if such a request is frowned upon, never had need to ask before on any vehicle I've owned but E70 pricing seems erratic at best and illogical in a lot of examples making it tough to know what's worth purusing or waiting.

It's obviously a heap of cash and I'm seeking any more experienced yet impartial input.

Thanks

Have a look on the BMW GB website for similar spec and prices. That will give you a clue as to the 'rightness' of the price. Prices are as you say, a touch erratic at the moment. Dealer prices will always be higher than a private sale, but you should at least have some warranty offered?

49k miles on a diesel powered car is not a lot to worry about, but you don't say if it's petrol or diesel. It's not that bad on a modern petrol engine either. It has at least got a BMW fsh, which helps.

Thanks for pointers it's a 3.0SD so I believe that to be the same (more or less) diesel fuelled twin turbo forced induction lump in my current 535d.

It was the same powerplant as the 335d with approx 286bhp, so if that's the same then you're spot on.

I'd suggest the Glass's Guide website. You can put in all the details (including mileage) and it will give you prices based on condition and seller (BMW dealer, indy or private). Costs around £4 but worth it IMHO.

is this justin jkemp some sort of spamming sh*t??

i would agree that e70s are erraticly priced and very expensive really i would be looking at stumping up an extra 10k or so to go from mine to a 07 e70, not yet i thought they seem to still be a lump more than the late e53s but barely any newer

Try what car

http://www.whatcar.com/valuations

free & found them to be close to expected prices when I was looking at used and trade in values ;)

30k sounds a bit pricey more like 27k from independant, but if it has all the options & I mean all the options that would put 18-20k list on price new.

so if it has 3rd row seats (£1400) pano roof (£1100) rear dvd (£1k+) profess sound(£900) sat nav(£2400) sd twin turbo (£2300) HUD(£1k) comfort access & seats (combines £1200) and so on.................you see where i'm going ;)
so paying £2 or 3k more than your wanting too for the right car with a fully or near fully loaded car is not really that bad. & TBH finding a good well looked after car with a very high spec in a colour you like is quite rare, some peeople are lucky and it falls on thier lap, others hunt for months b4 finding one.

Ended up with a single turbo SE in space grey. Still lots of toys .. Media, xenons, nappa leather, pan roof, USB audio, dab, comf access, rear entertain, 4 zone climate, running boards and 7 seats - phew think that was the lot... Oh dynamic pack and the dim / fold mirrors too.
Only thing it's missing for me is a second turbo ... But it was a lot cheaper and had only 30k on clock so will I believe be more appealing at resale ( which I'm told by the wife is not likely to be any time soon :) )

Loving it except for the 21" rims that we're also factory optioned- a gunmetal sort of colour - look fab - just too low profile I think and inducing twitchy steering / tram lining. Maybe cold weather / stiff rubber combination though. Fitted some winter rubber on 19s for time being and it's transformed the drive. Will see what spring brings and retry the drug dealer wheels before deciding on summer setup of choice.

Very pleased, however finding mpg a little less than I'd expected at only 21 to 22 for mixed driving presently, which is admittedly mostly town.

Hi Spr0cket.....i ended up with a 3.0sd in what sounds like very similar spec to yours. If it makes you feel any better I am getting around 18-19mpg around town driving at the moment.......25mpg on a run. Finding it thirsty compared to the e53. Have the 20's on mine but also the adaptive suspension and have to admit the ride and handling are fantastic. Tram lining is probably down to the width of the tyres too. Wish the steering was a bit twitchy....just find mine a little vague
