To be honest you could probably remove all that BMW kit and sell it for two or three times the price of these units. For some reason people still pay silly money for the genuine kit, even though it's 10 years out of date!
Someone on the e46zone paid £2000 on eBay for a fully fitted factory nav 6 months ago! The eBay auction is still live now and people are still buying it! I have no idea why. When I took my e46 to trade in I was told numerous times it makes no difference to the value whether you have nav or not, and when I sold my car on eBay it sold for about the same as identical cars without Nav! Even the genuine Nav DVDs from BMW cost a fortune!
I'd whip it all out, sell it, buy a Hualingan and pocket some nice change!
I'll let you know N1k. Ive got my head unit up for sale along with the MK3 nav computer. Theres a couple of head units on there at the moment for £280 !!! Buy it now. I'll be quite happy if I get that for mine - although I've put it up for auction with a sensible start price.Watch this space ...
Nice install aswell N1k, that sticking out at the bottom milarky would have driven me crazy. Good work fella
yes pls let us know how it goes. i saw that too, after N1ks suggestion i searched around , lowest was around £100, highest was around £280 for the oem head unit.
what i have is standard head unit with nav. along with bm54, cd changer in the boot; no dsp. so which of these units can i dispose of if i'm going for the Hualingan?
Nik, the car-vision guys might be able to tell me i recon?

Jaynana - You can get rid of it all if you're fitting the Hualingan, except for the CD Changer which I believe is compatible.
Ubatoid - The Nav looks ok yeah, not sure about that 3D buildings view though, seems a bit Gimmicky!, But i look forward to your review!

Updated: Just Fitted My 4th Gen Hualingan Headunit!
Im tempted by the dynavin. Also has a lot of obc equivalent features such as mpg, distance remaining, as well as things like oil and water temp, battery voltage etc, also parking sensor display. I still want to know how to get hold of one to test Sanj style.

Re: Updated: Just Fitted My 4th Gen Hualingan Headunit!
Just had a quick thought. When I fit my new Hulliooligoony head unit I have to use an extension that goes to the radio unit next to the battery as I have factory nav already. My question is does my extension lead plug into the radio module or into the exsisting loom that goes to the module and if so can I take the radio module right out and sell that too and actaully be in profit after my uprade ??!!!!!

For £705.70 It'd have to be perfect for me to buy a Dynavin! I had to really convince myself that spending £490 odd on the Hualingan was worth it...which i guess it was when you consider that before I just had a single slot CD player and that was it, and now have CD/DVD/iPod/TV/SD/Bluetooth Phone etc, but even then I had a bead of sweat running down my brow as I entered my card details ....but you can get a lot of stuff for £700. That's a 50" 3D Plasma TV right there:
http://www.richersounds.com/package/tv/ ... tv/patwh65
On the Dynavin website they mention that you can get Facebook and Email on your car stereo...
That's not a selling point for me. I mean do you really need internet on your car stereo? Especially when you have it right there on your phone anyway, i really don't see the need. TV/DVD sure, i spend a lot of time in my car parked up at the services eating my lunch when i'm out and about, and my son can sit in the back and watch films on long journeys etc, but I can't see me ever using my car stereo to fire off an email.
And to top it off when you hear of people having problems, that's a big no from me. When I considered the Dynavin it' was mainly because I assumed it was bulletproof compared to the other similar ones....
And am I the only one who thinks the Dynavin looks a bit bland?.. The older one (with the 'forehead') just looked plain stupid, but the new one doesn't exactly blow me away in the looks department. I actually prefer the look of the Hualingan.

I spoke to John at car-vision about this the other day, AFAIK it's a sort of agreement with the retailer that they will buy one or two units, you still pay a certain amount to 'test' it for a certain time, and you work together with the retailer to see if it's any good before they buy in a big batch of them. I think you might have missed the boat though, since John 'tested' the Hualingan with Sanj, John was happy enough with it (happy enough to offer a 1yr warranty anyway) and ordered a load of them in.
He also told me a story (see below) of a different guy who mentioned to John that he was thinking of buying a similar Chinese unit for a Jeep Cherokee, John was interested in potentially selling them too so instead of the guy just buying one, John said that he would order it and 'test' it out in the customer's car, which they did. But it turned out to be a pile of crap and apparently John spent over 100 hours to-ing and -fro-ing to the customer's house to sort out various things that kept going wrong. He decided it wasn't worth the hassle of buying any more, and didn't, but the customer left him a really bad review talking about the shoddy goods. An unfair review if you ask me, especially when it was pre-agreed that the unit was a 'test' one only. Every single other review of car-vision is 5 star, and John said he did not charge the customer anything for the 100 hours of assistance.
Not worth it imo, just get a tried and tested one that you know works. Save yourself the hassle.

What a wanker, I'd have been knocking on his door to ask what his problem was and then emptying his pockets too.

No. Loom with quadlock goes to RCM to tap into the amp and thus the car speakers. The tv module, satnav, Bluetooth can all come out. Should help recoup some money.

John is like that. Customer Service first. Puts himself out BIG time. Nothing but respect for the guy. As do all folks that use him (without a hidden agenda)!

The link posted to the dynavin issue looks like the older d95.... Might still go the intravee route, it's a shame the Haulegan unit doesn't show obc stuff like the other

You won't regret OEM. I'm not unhappy to go back to it. OK, tech over 10 years old in comparison but my (sorry) jingaling unit as one forum member affectionately called it was so temperamental compared to the OEM Alpine unit, plus the Intravee just helps cushion that blow. I have it for the best iPod interface, the PS2 for the media and the rear camera is in already so not lacking anything. X555 helped enormously with the sub enclosure and I upgraded the front doors to components to get the best out of the sound. I'm VERY happy with mine at the mo, the Dynavin will have its work cut out, and yes the first one was ugly, so is the newera one, if only they put some effort into it like the E46 one!?! We shall see...
