Newbie to Xdrivers

Post by satts » Fri Jan 13, 2012 10:04 pm

Hello All

Just joined in readiness for the arrival of my new X5 3.0SE which is due to arrive in March. Been busy reading through all the various topics, some great info, very informative.

I'm moving up to an X5 from my April 2010 520d (E61) love my 520, but would like a little more power and AWD for towing my caravan, more space for all my outdoor kit, plus my 2 Border Collies will also appreciate the extra room. The better ground clearance will come in handy for my weekend trips around the Lakes where I live, only talking rough car parks and grass tracks, not LR terrortory! For this reason I have ordered with none bling wheels and all season tyres. My wife has managed to remove the front mud flaps twice on the 520, so that was my perfect excuse to move to the X5!

Anyway, I just wanted to intoduce myself and say "Hi" looking forward to chatting with and sharing experiences.

Regards

Satts

Thanks for the welcome.

I have gone for 3.0SE Space grey met, Media pack, towbar, privacy glass, heated seats, sports steering wheel (loved the feel of that!) pretty much bog standard, have not gone for big wheels for reasons previously stated, was going to upgrade the ICE, but having read all about the various BMW rip off prices and not fantastic sound, decided to "just not bother" I'm not allowed to play loud music anyway, my wife turns it down all the time! and I'm convinced I have made my previous 2 Border Collies deaf with my rock music!

Will post some piccies once I take delivery.

My Wife has started looking at caravans. Can't see her being able to tow much with the Mini LOL!

I have a sneaky feeling she's actually thinking about making use of the X6 for the 'tractor' though. She suddenly started showing me piccies of a twin-axle 'thing' last night. I'd forgotten about having the detachable tow bar installed :(

It may be heresy to admit this, but there are some really nice 'vans out there these days. And my days of sleeping rough when part of the RAF have long since passed me by too.. :D

SAS, RAF ... better watch myself then!!
Welcome satts - you are going to love it when it arrives. Not really a problem not going for all the toys as fundamentally it's a brilliant car!
Great dogs too - I grew up with a border collie.

Did I say SAS? oops finger trouble.....RAF I meant!

X5 towing caravan with all the gizmos, even under floor heating!

Long way from my days towing a trailer with a tent in a 25 year old LR 110, sometimes getting older has some perks! Roll on March, like a little kid at Xmas now!!!
