Sat nav repair

Post by LFP » Thu Jan 12, 2012 7:46 pm

In the process of sorting a few bits on my newly acquired X5 and have now fixed the sat nav.

I understand this is a relatively common failure and some of the repair or replacement unit costs I found were pretty high.

It turns out the laser unit itself is often the problem. £50 on eBay secured a new one and a quick search of google turned up an outstanding guide complete with pictures.

It's a bit fiddly and requires a bit of soldering but with patience and attention it can be done inside an hour. Now works perfectly, albeit showing roads from 2004 (old disc).

I thoroughly recommend giving this a try if you've the same problem as I was expecting it to be a nightmare and it was actually ok.
