Parking heater remote start- Enabling
Is there a way to test the water valve?

possibly a dumb question after reading the level of checking you've gone to in this thread, but could you not remove the coolant pump's outlet from the webasto unit and check if coolant gets pumped out when the unit is running?

Already ahead of you. Pipes hot going to the water valve but cold after it which is why im wondering if it's faulty. Could do with checking there's no difference in the pipe work between mine and one that works perfectly.

yeah i haven't come this far, but i'd assume if your unit starts operarting and the pipe gets hot, its a plumbing job beyond that point. i still don't know where the water valve is, so bit behind.
i will let you know after next weekends testing, only thing is, my batt has to be good enough to make the webasto run. i also wonder if my scanner will arrive by then (will be a week since placing the order)

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
Hello,
Please I need Help and i see that a lot of guys are very good with wiring.
I bought Telestart t100 on ebay as I saw in BMW service that it suits my car, i have read forum and i tried to apply +12v to pin 1, but in my case noting happens.
I did not hold pin 1 with +12v more than 20 seconds.
Please if someone has some tip, i would appreciate it. My car is not X5, it is E65 740d, i had to reply on this forum, because i did not find any attempt of instalation on other web page. (found only for bmw e39)
Is it because car need to be reprogramed or ?
Can i install this without authorised service ?
Thank you
.

20sec is more than enough time, if its the same unit we're speaking about that you have in your car (i've posted pictures before in this thread).
mine also didn't start the first time i tried, the second day it started.
the only difference was between the days was, the first day was last sat morning after the car had been idle for 3 or 4 days, the second day was sunday am after teh car had done about 30miles on sat. AND i have a weak battery. so my suspicion is that the unit requires a minimum voltage to start. it could very well be, to retain the minimum voltage required to start the car.
so may i suggest you check the battery voltage with a volt meter (i also plan to do this next time, to confirm my theory)
re. your question whether you can get this done minus programming, minus authorized service, i don't know your car but my guess is if your E65 740d uses the same webasto unit, and if its in the same generation as the E53, you may be able to.. cos bmw's technology solutions tend to be somewhat the same across different models of the same generation.

Yes, it requires a certain voltage. If the voltage drops below a certain value whilst the webasto is pre-heating the car, or if the voltage is too low before it starts then the webasto wont run.

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
Thanks all, for great tips, i will try to measure voltage tomorrow morning, this morning i tried to connect pin one to +12v without success, noting happened, i will make sure that i also have more than 1/4 of fuel.
When connected car to INPA, it does not show any errors regarding parking heather and axillary heating.

You need a really good connection on pin 1, I poked a sewing needle into the contact with pliers and attached a cable to it from the 12v jumping point under the bonnet
Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
Measured voltage this morning (minus 1 degree) and it was 12.26 V (i measured voltage under the hood, on plus connector), tried to start webasto, no success.
My only option seems to check again pin 1 connector, to see is connection ok.
Maybe e65 has some different settings, so i am unable to start it if car is not programed or ?
Really hoped it will work
Thanks for tips

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
here's another check - on a cold day like today (less than 5c) when u start the car, check in about 5 min, does the webasto run?
aux heater equipted cars i think run the webasto to heat the car when u start the car, although the option to enable before start may be disabled in the computer. i maybe wrong here, but this is what im suspecting cos here's my issue now:
cold start, less than 5c outside temp; in about 5 min: webasto starts the motor; but doesn't get hot, doesn't blow hot air off its exhaust
+12 to pin 1, if batt is good: webasto starts the motor, but i didn't wait 5 to 10 min to see if it got hot
so i suspect that my burner unit has an issue. could be the glow plug. can't tell cos i have no scanner. i've ordered the scanner thought i'd just wait for it before stripping the webasto apart based on guess work.
so in ur case another check to do is - check if webasto starts on a cold morning, once the engine starts (as i think it should, even if its not programmed to run before engine starts).

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
Webasto starts each time when i start car (at lower temperatures), and it works at least 10-15 min, until engine gets heat.
When it is cold and webasto running, i have option on i drive screen to turn it off manually or to let it work as it should, as soon as engine gets worm, webasto shuts down and i do not have that option (it is blanked), so my response is
Yes it works, no error on INPA, it just does not want to start when turned off

Re: Parking heater remote start- Enabling
im gona add another spanner into the works here....
I enabled my parking heater the other week using bmw scanner, tested it a few days later and made sure there is a jet of water inside the header tank - all good so far!
Ran it for about 10mins and it was working excellent, much to my suprise.
Today, got up cold morning and thought excellent will try the parking heater. Jumped out to the car in my pj's started the car and ticked the "aux heater" option on the dash. Seemed all good....
In the house had a shower, looked out the window, cars windows seemed to be defrosting so even better, parking heater is an amazing thing.... or so I thought.
Came out to the car to go to work and tried to start the car..... flat battery!!!!!
Had to get the jump leads onto it then it ran fine.... so my question is, I thought the parking heater would cut off if the voltage dropped to a specified amount, or if the level of diesel got too low, but this obviously wasn't the case.
So basically my parking heater works, but I cant use it at any point cos it will flatten the battery!!!!
