Grreat Stuff,

Squeaky's post made me do some more digging with regards to fitting,

I found an old thread on the Hualingan from the USA X5 forum from 2010 (so from the early units) and there's lots of talk of grounding wires, running 'BRAKE' wires so that you can watch DVDs on the move etc, and it seems more complicated that just plug-and-play.

Is that still the case now, or are the more modern units literally just a case of plug and play?

Any help would be great :)

Plug-and-play fella.

You'll have the quadlock connector behind the dash (as you don't have OEM SatNav) and then you only have to consider where the GPS antenna will go and if you want rear-view camera it means running cables to the boot, etc. Otherwise easy.

There is another module (can't remember what they called it - CanBus???), does the steering controls etc. Most likely on the loom and if that's the case, again can be done up front.

I tricked the unit into thinking the brake was on by connecting it to the power cable :)

Just made an offer on this bad boy (Hualingan Head Unit)

Ooooo now you've got me thinking. Can't actually remember whether I grounded it or added +12. I'll have to have a look as the unit is still on top of the wardrobe. I kinda remember it being the opposite of what I was expecting it to be though.

Nah I didn't hear a thing back from the seller, he didn't accept or reject my offer. He just ignored it which didn't fill me with confidence if I bought from him and had a problem with it...

That's why on the post above I was asking if he wanted to sell the on top of the wardrobe!

Once I do get one though I will of course be adding plenty of pics to my project thread!

At the moment my iPhone 4 sat infront of the steering wheel is my stereo! :(

That's a bit queer, I got a reply back within half an hour on a question about one of his units.

Update on this:

I checked the car-vision website a while back (before I ruined my MID stereo) and the cheapest they were selling the Hualingan for was £500+

I checked again earlier and noticed they are selling 'Ex-Display' units now for £425 (which is roughly the same price as they are on eBay)

I decided to go ahead and buy it, since I've heard nothing but great reviews about car-vision and their aftersales, and if anything goes wrong (which was a big worry for me) it's a lot easier to make the 30 mile drive to Droitwich than it is to remove the unit and post it back to Ireland/China as well having to as pay the return shipping.

I could have probably got a better deal on eBay, but for me the extra peace of mind is worth paying a little more. And being an Ex-Demo at least I know that all the functions definitely work. The one I bought from car-vision is the exact same model I tried to buy from the eBay seller who never responded to my offer.

They offer free next day delivery so with any luck I will have it by the weekend. I'll let you know how I get on, but it's got to be better than driving around with a big gaping hole in my dash and a wire poking through... :(

Hopefully, I'll be able to make up most of the money back selling my Intravee/Alpine unit, CD Player, Changer, and Broken MID stereo. As well as a full set of new 18" tyres I have for an E46 sitting in my garage.

Here is the link for anyone interested:

Hi n1k

I need to have a look at it at the weekend as I always had a problem with the digital tv bit of it and after talking to john at carvision he thought it might just be a signal thing. Will have a look and see what happens when i connect it in at home and will let you know :)
