BMW Dog Guard (Genuine BMW)
Re: BMW Dog Guard (Genuine BMW)
If it is for a dog you are best to buy the proper metal item which is very strong. In an accident the dog will go striaght through the fabric item whereas the proper dog guard is strong metal and also fixed securely into the car. They are not cheap though, mine cost about £150.
Re: BMW Dog Guard (Genuine BMW)
I disagree
The mesh is Nylon and very strong, the steel brackets or fixing points are also the same. Check with BMW it IS a dog guard and designed for same.
Yours will be stronger for sure but i am happy with mine.

I also disaree with davyk31. pvw10 is spot on, the mesh one is very strong and looks alot smarter than an ungly metal dog guard!

I use the cargo net as my dog guard and it works very well. It manages to keep my great dane where he should be!

Re: BMW Dog Guard (Genuine BMW)
In defence of davyk, I'm adding my 2p worth
I've got the cargo net version and use it for that - luggage in boot area. And I've got the metal proper dog guard version which is not "ugly" and looks no worse than the cargo net equivalent - its much stronger than the net version and would prevent even the most destructive pit bull from munching through it, while the cargo net CAN be destroyed long before that metal gives way - in any event, neither of these items are the most stylish or fabulous items in the car, but it is very annoying that owners flog them off for a few pounds meaning that you hasve to hunt them out on auction sites and the like..........
Both of them are useful for both purposes - luggage or stopping dog from leaping over the back seats to the front - the metal one can't be easily stowed away in the car, it'll need a space in a garage or a cupboard, the net version can be rolled up and kept in the car. You pays your money you takes your choice!!

Re: BMW Dog Guard (Genuine BMW)
I stand by my comments, the metal dog guard is the only safe way to secure your dog and ensure it stays in the boot in the event of an accident and doesn't remove your kids heads in the rear seats as it is catapulted through.
The fixing points are massively different, the metal dog guard has large steel plates that are screwed in and also are secured by the rear seat closing back on them. The cargo net whilst well secured does not have any of this.
