Removing sign writing
Removing sign writing
Just wondering if anyone on here knows the best way to remove sign writing/stickers. I have to remove some that have been on for a good while and was curious to see if there is a preferred method
Any info is appreciated thanks

Best to get them warm and then just pick a corner and then peel, think you will have to use a hair dryer in this weather, thing is to keep the sticker warm while you are peeling it from the paintwork.
There will also be some polishing to do after removal as the paint under the stickers will not have been weathered

Also just to add, yes get them warm with a heat gun preferably, any residue can be removed with good old unleaded petrol too !

Re: Removing sign writing
Update... i removed my sign writing with surprisingly ease this morning thanks to your tips
I went in armed with a boiled kettle and hairdryer expecting APITA of a job but was well chuffed after giving the door panel a quick blow dry with mts x555's hairdryer the stickers came of easily
Though i did s@"t myself when her hairdryer conked about half way through the job.....only to be pleasantly surprised (near soiled my kecks) when the damn thing fired back into life a few minutes later must have been a temperature switch to stop it overheating
Thanks again for replys

Glad you got it sorted..
One thing that has often puzzled me is why dealers etc continue to put their stickers in rear windows knowing full well that if it is over the rear window elements then not only do the elements most likely overheat in that area (so shortening heir lives) but the glues ultimately wreck them too.
It may take years, but it's such a numpty thing to do. Not only that, but the dealer sticker can reduce the rear view too. The one on our Mini - since removed by use of Mrs X5Sport's hairdryer - was smack in the bottom centre of the rear screen where the wiper motor bulge is so leaving precious little rear view in that area. I did politely point this out to them but it probably fell on deaf ears....
When I ordered the X6, I told the Dealer that if they wanted to put any of their stickers advertising themselves in the car then I would levy a charge of £1,000 for advertising space as BMW do not list 'Advertising' on the list of options or standard fitments. No stickers were fitted, and even the plates have no dealer postcodes in them - I think the latter is actually a mistake though I'm not complaining.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

They were on the van from new 11 years ago and came off with ease with heat added. The paint is as new which is great other than the fading of the rest of the paint.....less noticable being white though.

Re: Removing sign writing
Should be fine
I wasn't to worried with it being an old works van so i tried to get them off before asking on here with great difficulty and i thought it was going to be a nightmare of a job
But they came off easy without any damage at all
