Even with snow tyres, I still have my chains as well for if it gets really bad (30 second fit with the bajonet fitting).

Had no problem in the Alps with my car so did not need the chains

It is actually a legal requirement to have snow chains in the car here in Switzerland but apparently few people do if winter tyres are fitted. Can you fit chains after getting stuck or do you have to put them on before if conditions are bad? I'm doing fine now just avoiding the seriously deep stuff, even though it is seriously treacherous.

There are signs on the road when you have to put the chains on. Sometimes, a 100 yards up the road there can be a police car checking that you have them.

On another car, I did get stuck half way up the Jaun pass over there, so therefore had to put my chains on.
