Fitting a Westfalia Detachable Towbar & Dedicated Electric

The fridge should work with 13 pin. I have never had a problem with mine working. On my old caravan I had an adaptor to go from the 13 pin on my car to the 12n and 12s on the caravan and it worked fine.

The Westfalia wiring kit doesn't have a functioning pin 10 which is for charging/fridge.

Some of the other manufacturers wiring kits do but cost more £150ish Vs £90.

Can anyone with a factory fitted OEM kit confirm wether pin 10 is present ?

Just got my towbar kit through the post and am using this as my guide to fit. Excellent "how to". Many thanks indeed. If only all "how to's" were the same

If I buy the designated 7 pin instead of the 13 pin wiring harness,.. will the connections in the boot area be the same ie. the white control box and the connecting plug ?

No idea regarding the connections - but I would assume that they would be just plug and play if they are the Westfalia kit as they are what BMW supply and fit.

If you are going to the trouble of fitting it yourself I would suggest going for the 13 pin set up and using a 13-7pin adapter like I do (they cost less than a tenner from a decent towing shop or online). With just a 7 pin electrics system fitted you'll put off people with caravans when you come to sell the car. Just a thought.

Good suggestion,.. never thought of that,.. I have a caravan with both black and grey plugs but I've never used the grey one for charging the caravan and chilling the fridge. There's been a debate on here already about whether the fridge will work off this 13 pin system ??

Thanks
