Hi,
well yet another problem, my car wont open or close with either of my key fobs using the lock button. It works using the key in the door and the button inside the car locks all the doors, just not my keys. also when locking it with the key in the door my alarm isnt flashing?
any ideas please. also i cant try unhooking the battery as its under my lpg tank.
cheers

Re: central locking
When you lock only the door the alarm is not set, this can be useful if there is an animal inside,or if you the alarm is not working properly you can still lock the doors.
I've had this problem occasionally it seemed like the battery was flat in the key, but after driving the car for a while, it was good again I believe it recharges by the ignition.
I also found it didn't work outside sum buildings, as if the signal was being blocked .
As my key has never completely failed I don't know if I can be much more help.

Re: central locking

Re: central locking
I think Jason's instructions re-syncronise the keys to the car.
Re: central locking
Yep, done this on the E46 a few times with great success. Pairs the key(s) to the car.
Re: central locking
This youtube video helped me for pairing the keys. It also shows you how to pair a second key.(i know it's an e39 but it's the same process)

If you have a key that's not working, next time you go for a drive 45mins+ use that key in the ignition so it charges. Then try the pairing procedure.
No point in changing the battery unless this doesn't work.

Re: central locking
Thanks for the advice but that didnt work Ive left it with the garage to try a diagnostics search. Also today the tailgate door wont open either, the garage did say when they went to move the car earlier they had to jump start the car, do you think this could be the problem.
On another note, as my battery is under the lpg tank, is there a way of finding out how old/good the battery is and if it needs changing without having to take the car to have the tank removed? I have no idea if its been replaced or is still the origional battery.

Re: central locking
I think that's always been the issue with the LPG tanks in the wheel well.....access to the battery is, well, terrible. X5 batteries tend to last at least 5 years or so even longer, from new, so it might very well bean original battery starting to play up. Given the lousy access becuase of the LPG tank, I'd be tempted to have the battery changed for a 5 year warranty Bosch Silver then you know its not going to be an issue unless you're really unlucky.

Re: central locking
my old x5 had lpg and whoever installed the lpg put access in to remove it from underneath the rear, just have a look and make sure before removing tank!
