i agree with pvr, and as the milage goes over 100k you end up paying most, however when i refused wd policy it came to light there is another wd insurance for £80, if you break down you tow your car (aa or rac etc) to your preferred garage and they pay the bill of most of it, anyway that would cover turbo, gearbox etc just not things like wear and tear wishbones etc

PVR it's frightening how well you know me and the price I'm willing to spend on a handbag. Mr IT Barbie was so disgusted about the cost on my choice of handbag he took the cowards way out and just suggested vouchers for House of Fraser. I mean let's face it £50 that's a lipstick at best!

Well, £500 does not quite cover a turbo though. If the turbo was replaced at £3k or so, you would still pay £2450 (not sure how much the AA premium is either).

If however an £80 cover would pay out £3k, than that would be very interesting.

I had a warranty with warranty direct - and I personally found them a nightmare to deal with....

My air con stopped working (on previous E91) and the garage I used said it was the compressor that had broke - some kinda metal bit had sheared off within the compressor... anyway WD wanted proof of the last service invoice - which took time to get... and then they wanted a whole load of pictures of the parts etc - for which they gave the garage I was using 3 hours deadline to take pictures in certain format and size and send over to them... then they claimed that as the garage had put a leak test fluid into the system - this had caused it to go wrong and it was the garages fault... then they said it was a wear and tear item that wasnt covered - which I then explained I had the extra cover which covered me...anyway to cut a long story short I actually gave up with the claim as it was during the hot summer months and I just wanted the air con to work and the garage I used managed to get a reconditioned compressor fitted for about £350... and by that point it completely fed up, so my personal experience with them wasnt great. This could be a one off situation... but just thought i'd share.

yeh well from my piont of view i count see the point our local garage wont deal with them and he says many in our area wont, because wd state the time taken to complete a set job and will only pay that e.g he fits air bag to rear wd say 2h labour and it takes him 3h they only pay 2 so he wont work for them, which to me rendered the warrenty useless to me!

I think most people have had nothing but trouble from these third party warranty companies - they are not in it to pay expensive repairs after all, they are there to maimise profits for the owners and pay as little as they can get away with!!

I've stuck with the BMW Extended Warranty after the AUC warranty period ended - I know its Mondial who are 3rd party providers, but they are very heavily linked to BMW and less likely to weasel out of anything and everything as they have huge contracts with BMW and Mercedes. I took a Warranty Direct policy on my previous X, only used 3 months of the Luxury Cover (I think it was around £450) and when I cancelled when buying my new X , they only refunded £50 after taking off massive "admin" and "cancellation" fees. I think all 3rd party warranty providers are a bunch of crooks or dodgy at best. My previous X came with a VGS Warranty - never used it thankfully. I'll never go WD again after the last little "sharp practice" I was subjected to - I'd rather put some money into a savings account every month as an emergency fund!!!
