Check Sanj's thread about this, something to do with the micro switch and a bit of metal you have to check.

I had this during warranty and the dealer replaced mine.

I tried searching but no luck, but I think you have given me a hint as to where the problem may be, I will have a closer look when I get time.
Thank's

Folding mirrors keep going in and then back out

Post by scooby1doo1 » Tue Dec 06, 2011 8:24 pm

Yep had this on mine, just take the cover off the back of the mirror. You will see what needs to be done, don't go to heavy handed on removing the cover, this cold will cause it to snap a bracket.

I don't remember where I got the guide from but google it I no luck finding one.

:D That was so easy to fix and find the problem, it was the driver's side in the end, the little arm chest needed to be bent out a little bit more :)

Sanj's guide was a great help, I recommend it to anyone with similar problems

Sorry I didn't see this post until now, it only took me about 10 minutes five minutes each side, I used a screwdriver to ease the covers off and release the microbes switch, as long as you follow Sanj's guide everything should be good.

are the micro switches universal for right and left side? if it is i might take the my old mirror back from the collision center for spares for future as it is still in working condition on folding part. it might come in handy one day.

Def keep the old one for spares mate. You never know when you may need a bit. Afaik the micro switches are the same for both sides.

that sounds great. my driver side is going to have a lifetime warranty as long as i own the X5. it would be a good spare for the passenger side if anything happens to it. thank you for the clarification.
